Acute effects of an exercise based multimodal in-patient rehabilitation protocol in male knee osteoarthritis patients and the two years follow-up sustainability
CONCLUSION: Our data indicate that 2-year sustainability of acute rehabilitation starter effects was demonstrated especially for patients with adherence and compliance to long-term gym based exercises.PMID:36710693 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-205264 (Source: Work)

GCL loss in BRAO
ConclusionsUsing thickness changes in the GCL layer to monitor the efficacy of potential inhibitors against BRAO and CRAO is practical in human trials requiring a reasonable number of patients and relatively short trial period. Translational relevanceMeasurement of GCL thickness would be a useful indicator of amelioration of BRAO and CRAO progression in a clinical trial of a putative inhibitor. (Source: PLoS One)

Burden of all-cause and organism-specific parapneumonic empyema hospitalization rates prior to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in the United States
CONCLUSION: Early declines in all-cause empyema-related hospitalizations observed right after PCV13 introduction among children in 2010 were sustained through 2019, though rates did not decline among adults.PMID:36592639 | DOI:10.1016/j.rmed.2022.107111 (Source: Respiratory Care)

Application program to detect unrecognized information regarding malignant tumors in radiology reports
ConclusionThese results demonstrate that the developed system is useful when auditors check patients ’ medical records to confirm the status of overlooked reports and diagnoses. In future work, we will develop additional functions and tools for incorporation into the proposed system to facilitate its application in clinical practice. (Source: Health and Technology)

Racial and socioeconomic disparities in cost and postoperative complications following sacrocolpopexy in a US National Inpatient Database
ConclusionsIn women undergoing sacrocolpopexy, the protective factors against postoperative complications included private insurance status, a laparoscopic approach, and concurrent hysterectomy. Procedures held within an urban teaching hospital, conducted laparoscopically/robotically or in the West are associated with significantly higher costs of surgical management. Hispanic patients observe significantly higher procedure charges and costs, possibly resulting from the large number of this ethnic group living in the Western United States. Healthcare resource consumption and care pathway of patients who died from asthma in France
Conclusion: Half of patients who died from asthma received inadequate ICS dose and only a small proportion had access to biological therapies in France. Less than 15% were referred to a specialist and less than 10% had lung function tests done (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Trends in the incidence of asthma in children and adolescents in Catalonia, 2010-2021: a large population-based cohort study
Asthma is the most common chronic respiratory disease in children yet recent data on incidence trends is lacking. We aimed to describe the most recent temporal trends of asthma incidence in children and adolescents by sociodemographic characteristics. We included 1.7 million individuals aged 0 to 17 years in SIDIAP, a population-based electronic primary care records database from Catalonia, Spain. We calculated asthma (ICD10 code J45) annual incidence rates (IR) and incidence rate ratios (IRR) from 2010 to mid-2021 overall and stratified by age, sex, and socioeconomic deprivation index. The IR of asthma decreased in the last ...

Regional Differences in Admissions and Treatment Outcomes for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients in Thailand
CONCLUSIONS: There was a large previously-unreported disparity in admissions and outcomes in Thailand for different treatment modalities for HCC. Bangkok and the South had the best treatment outcomes and often had median survivals more than twice as long as those in the West and East. Public policy to reduce this disparity will need to be implemented in the future.PMID:36444583 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2022.23.11.3701 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)
