Modern readmission rates after head trauma
This study was undertaken to reevaluate the rate based on more granular ICD10 codes and to identify any factors associated with readmission that may be targeted to reduce readmission.METHODS: Patients were identified from the 2019 National Readmission Database with an ICD10 code for head trauma. Readmission was defined as occurring within 30 days of initial hospital admission. Comparisons were made using chi square, Mann Whitney rank sum, or multivariable logistic regression.RESULTS: The readmission rate was 5.0%. The rate was higher among men (5.6% vs 4.3%, P < 0.001) and patients ≥65 years of age (5.8% vs 3.9%, P &l...

Clinical factors associated with relapse in depression in a sample of UK primary care patients who have been on long-term antidepressant treatment
CONCLUSIONS: The number of previous episodes and residual symptoms of depression were associated with increased likelihood of relapse. These factors could inform joint decision making when patients are considering tapering off maintenance antidepressant treatment or considering other treatments to prevent relapse.PMID:37753652 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723002659 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Prevalence of atrial fibrillation and reasons for undertreatment with oral anticoagulants
ConclusionsIn the population of V ästernorrland County, a very high AF prevalence of 4.7% was found, of which just over 90% would theoretically benefit from OAC treatment. This is higher than previously reported and stresses the importance of stroke prevention in this large patient group. (Source: Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis)
