Vacuum-assisted mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy is associated with lower rates of infectious complications compared to vacuum-cleaner procedure in patients at high risk for infections: a single-center experience
ConclusionOne out of three high-risk patients showed infectious complications after mPCNL. vamPCL and shorter operative time were independent protective factors for infections after surgery. (Source: World Journal of Urology)

Utility of F-15 diuretic MAG3 renography in assessment of paediatric hydronephrosis
Diuretic renography is crucial in evaluation of paediatric hydronephrosis. Furosemide is conventionally given 15-20 minutes after radiolabelled tracer (F+15/F+20 protocol), however this is equivocal in around 15% of patients. Giving furosemide 15 minutes prior to tracer (F-15 MAG3 protocol) has been suggested as an additional tool in the investigation of patients with suspected upper urinary tract obstruction. However, the role of this method in assessment and management of paediatric hydronephrosis is not widely reported. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Optimal duration of medical expulsive therapy for lower ureteral stones: a critical evaluation
AbstractTo evaluate the optimal duration of Medical Expulsive Therapy (MET) application for distal ureteric stones on a time period based manner. 89 patients with 5 –10 mm distal ureter stones received tamsulosin (0.4 mg) for MET and diclofenac sodium (75 mg) for analgesia. Patients were evaluated once a week for 4 weeks. Radiologic stone passage was evaluated by kidney ureter bladder (KUB) and ultasonography where non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) w as also performed if needed. While 23 cases (28.4%) were SF after first week, 23 were SF (28.4%) after 2 weeks, 9 cases (11.1%) after 3 and lastly 7 cases (8.6%) be...

Retroperitoneoscopic Simple Nondismembered Pyeloplasty with Da Vinci Si Assistance to Prevent Alignment Shift
Conclusion: Both SNDP and DP have favorable outcomes. If the UPJ is located at the lowest end of the renal pelvis, SNDP may improve hydronephrosis more quickly.PMID:38502848 | DOI:10.1089/lap.2023.0236 (Source: Adv Data)

Urothelial carcinoma masquerading as retroperitoneal fibrosis: A case report
Oncol Lett. 2024 Mar 5;27(5):195. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14328. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTRetroperitoneal fibrosis, a rare and often idiopathic condition, poses significant diagnostic challenges. While most cases are considered idiopathic or immune-mediated, a small but important proportion are associated with malignant neoplasms, with implications for prognosis and management. The present study describes the case of a 69-year-old man who presented to the emergency department of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital (Granada, Spain), with a 2-week history of epigastric pain, vomiting and altered bowel habits. Labor...

Non-contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance urography for measuring split kidney function in pediatric patients with hydronephrosis: comparison with renal scintigraphy
ConclusionsNCE-MRU can be used as an alternative method for estimating SKF in pediatric patients with hydronephrosis when comparing with RS. Specifically, SKPV proves to be a simple and universally applicable indicator for predicting SKF.Graphical AbstractA higher resolution version of the Graphical abstract is available asSupplementary information (Source: Pediatric Nephrology)

Can shear wave elastography predict the success of shock ‑wave lithotripsy used in renal stones treatment? A prospective study
ConclusionsMeasurement of stone density by shear wave elastography (SWE) can be used as an alternative to HU in decision-making before SWL. SWL success depends mainly on stone site, HU, and SWE values. (Source: World Journal of Urology)

Hydronephrosis as a late complication of ProACT implantation
An 83-year-old male was referred to the urology clinic because of acute kidney failure and perineal pain and urinary urgency. The patient was treated in 2009 with implantation of an adjustable continence therapy device (ProACT ™, Uromedica), because of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) after radical prostatectomy (RP)1,2. The procedure was performed with TRUS guidance under local anaesthesia3. At the admission, the patient referred perineal and left flank pain. Serum creatinine level was 1.45 mg/dL. (Source: Urology)
