Emergency Physician-Performed Point-of-Care Ultrasound of a Renal Mass
This report illustrates a case in which EP-performed POCUS led to the incidental diagnosis of a malignant renal mass in a patient presenting with flank pain. We review the specifics of the ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) Bosniak classification system used by radiologists for risk stratification of cystic renal masses (CRMs).PMID:38084182 | PMC:PMC10710763 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.48547 (Source: Pain Physician)

Comment to: A Machine Learning Algorithm Predicting Risk of Dilating VUR Among Infants With Hydronephrosis Using UTD Classification
I congratulate the team from Boston for this very interesting paper. They use a machine learning-based model to differentiate which patients with prenatal hydronephrosis are most likely to “benefit” from VCUG, i.e. most likely to have high-grade reflux1. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Urology)

Preoperative C-reactive protein to albumin ratio as a novel prognostic biomarker for the oncological outcomes of radical nephroureterectomy
CONCLUSION: Pre-operative CAR is independently associated with poor PFS and CSS in patients with UTUC undergoing RNU. Moreover, CAR may be an independent UTUC prognostic factor, offering a cost-effective and minimally invasive marker. However, further validation through large-scale, multi-center studies is necessary to confirm these findings and determine the optimal CAR cut-off value.PMID:38072737 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.10.011 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

What to expect on the long-term follow-up of pediatric pyeloplasty: Critical time intervals and risk factors
Standard protocol for post-pyeloplasty monitoring in children and natural course of hydronephrosis resolution have not been well defined. We aimed to analyze critical time intervals and risk factors in the long-term clinical outcomes of children who were operated for ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Analysis of the Efficacy of elastography in Comparison With Dynamic Renal nuclear Scintigraphy in the Evaluation of Unilateral Pelvi-ureteric Junction Obstruction
This study was conducted to see if USE can evaluate PUJO and if it can be correlated to the findings of the dynamic renal nuclear scan. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

Sudden-onset hypertension leading to the diagnosis of unilateral hydronephrosis due to ureteropelvic junction obstruction
We present a case of a 41-year-old female who developed hypertension over a three-month period and was subsequently diagnosed with ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO). The patient came to our department with elevated blood pressure. Blood examinations revealed normal renal function, hypokalemia and increased renin-angiotensin system (RAS) activity, as indicated by elevated level of plasma renin activity and plasma aldosterone level. A computed tomography imaging further revealed dilation of the left renal pelvis, atrophy of the left kidney, and indications of obstruction at the junction between the renal pelvis and u...
