Association between helminth infection and allergic disorders among children in Batu, Ethiopia
Conclusion and clinical relevanceThis study found a non-significant inverse association between helminths infection and atopy and allergic disorders, likely due to reduced statistical power, resulting in a lower prevalence of atopy and allergic conditions. A high powered longtitudinal study is necessary to explore the casuality and potential therapeutic benefits of helminths for allergic disorders. (Source: Immunity, Inflammation and Disease)

Association of autoimmune and allergic diseases with senile cataract: a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionsThe results of the MR analysis showed that there were causal relationships between type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, hypothyroidism, systemic lupus erythematosus, asthma, allergic rhinitis and senile cataract. To clarify the possible role of autoimmune and allergy in the pathophysiology of senile cataract, further studies are needed. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

Elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor improves nasal nitric oxide in patients with cystic fibrosis
Nasal nitric oxide (nNO) is known to be reduced in people with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PwPCD) and the measurement is used in PCD's diagnostic workup [1]. It was found, that nNO is not only reduced in PCD, but also in people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF), and in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) even without underlying CF and nasal polyps [2,3]. It is increased in people with allergic rhinitis and asthma compared to healthy controls (HC) [2]. People with reduced nNO levels and a history of lung disease should therefore not only be evaluated for PCD, but also for CF and other diseases associated with chronic inflammation of the...

Association between alopecia areata and allergic diseases: An All of Us database study
Several epidemiological studies have reported associations between alopecia areata (AA) and allergic diseases. This association may be linked to Type 2 inflammation contributing to AA pathophysiology, as suggested by a higher prevalence of atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and asthma among AA individuals.1-5 Furthermore, epidemiologic evidence of AA patients experiencing seasonal relapses, comorbid atopic conditions, and elevated IgE levels may also indicate a shared immunological pathway with allergic diseases. Surgical Intervention in Allergic Rhinitis: Stuffy Versus Sneezy Runny Nose
AbstractTo detect proportion and surgical outcome of adult patients with allergic rhinitis non-responsive to medical treatment. To identify clinical candidacy for submucous turbinoplasty of inferior turbinate resection or soft tissue reduction. A prospective descriptive study of adults with clinical allergic rhinitis was done. Non-responders to medical therapy were identified and outcome of surgical intervention analyzed.  There were 393 patients. Eighty-one patients (21%) were refractory to medical therapy. Presenting symptoms were sneezing with watery rhinorrhea among 72% and nasal obstruction in 28% patients All patien...

Baseline Severity and Disease Duration Can Predict the Response to Allergen-specific Immunotherapy in Allergic Rhinitis
Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2024 Feb 11;23(1):52-58. doi: 10.18502/ijaai.v23i1.14953.ABSTRACTAllergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) has confirmed its efficacy in improving the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. However, no reliable biomarkers have been identified to predict the efficacy of AIT were found. We aimed to find clinical and immunological markers to predict efficacy in children after 2 years of sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT). A total of 285 children diagnosed with allergic rhinitis were recruited. The clinical efficacy was evaluated by comparing endpoint and baseline symptom and medication scores (SMS). Baseline c...

A Review on Novel Therapeutic Modalities and Evidence-based Drug Treatments Against Allergic Rhinitis
Curr Pharm Des. 2024 Mar 14. doi: 10.2174/0113816128295952240306072100. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAllergic rhinitis (AR) is an IgE-mediated atopic disease that occurs due to inhaled antigens in the immediate phase. Misdiagnosis, insufficient treatment, or no treatment at all are frequent problems associated with the widespread condition known as chronic allergic rhinitis. AR symptoms include runny, itchy, stuffy, and sneezing noses. Asthma and nasal polyps, for example, sometimes occur simultaneously in patients. In order for people living with AR to be as comfortable and productive as possible, treatment should center...
