Association between alopecia areata and allergic diseases: An All of Us database study

Several epidemiological studies have reported associations between alopecia areata (AA) and allergic diseases. This association may be linked to Type 2 inflammation contributing to AA pathophysiology, as suggested by a higher prevalence of atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and asthma among AA individuals.1-5 Furthermore, epidemiologic evidence of AA patients experiencing seasonal relapses, comorbid atopic conditions, and elevated IgE levels may also indicate a shared immunological pathway with allergic diseases.
