Chronic Lymphocytic Thyroiditis with Oncocytic Metaplasia Influences PD-L1 Expression in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
ConclusionsOur study underscores the intricate interplay between chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis with oncocytic metaplasia and PD-L1 expression in papillary thyroid carcinoma. The observed link suggests a potential avenue for therapeutic intervention using anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapies in surgery-refractory PTC. Understanding the dynamics of immune checkpoint regulation in the context of the tumor microenvironment is crucial for devising effective treatment strategies. Future research endeavors should delve deeper into the molecular mechanisms underlying this interaction and explore its implications for patient outcomes. As th...

Challenges and pitfalls in the management of endocrine toxicities from immune checkpoint inhibitors: a case presentation of synchronous thyrotoxicosis and primary adrenal insufficiency in a melanoma patient
CONCLUSIONS: The simultaneous occurrence of adrenal and thyroid autoimmune diseases, resembling autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type 2, may occur as a rare but serious side effect of ICI treatment. It often presents with abrupt onset and rapid evolution towards polyglandular insufficiency. Physicians should be aware of the potential association of two or more endocrine disorders and careful monitoring of endocrine function is needed during ICI therapy.PMID:38421588 | DOI:10.1007/s42000-024-00535-0 (Source: Hormones)

A Unique Complication Of Thyroidectomy For Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: Central Retinal Artery Thrombosis
ConclusionAlthough it is extremely rare, it should be noted that patients may experience retinal artery occlusion following the thyroid surgery. Immediate evaluation of patients with visual impairment in the early postoperative period, and planning of emergent hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the management are critical.PMID:38391299 | DOI:10.1080/00015458.2024.2323286 (Source: Acta Chirurgica Belgica)

Prevalence of thyroid diffuse goiter and its association with body mass index and the presence of cysts and nodules in children and adolescents: the Fukushima Health Management Survey
Endocr J. 2024 Feb 16. doi: 10.1507/endocrj.EJ23-0609. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe main cause of diffuse thyroid goiter is autoimmune chronic thyroiditis, otherwise known as Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Thyroid hormones play pivotal roles in growth and development during childhood. However, the prevalence of diffuse goiter and the relationships between diffuse goiter, thyroid volume, cysts and nodules, and anthropometric measurements in children are not well known. Among 789,459 participants who participated in thyroid ultrasound examinations, 320,206 participants (male: 161,728; female: 158,478) aged 1-23 years were ana...
