Genotyping of ticks: first molecular report of Hyalomma asiaticum and molecular detection of tick-borne bacteria in ticks and blood from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan
This study presented the first genetic report of Hy. asiaticum ticks in Pakistan. Moreover, genetically confirmed tick species were molecularly analyzed by PCR for detection of Rickettsiales DNA using partial fragments of 16S rDNA, 190-kDa outer membrane protein A (ompA), and 120-kDa outer membrane protein B (ompB) genes. In addition, blood samples were analyzed to identify Rickettsiales bacteria using the aforementioned genes. Rickettsiales bacteria were found in 24/126 (19.05%) ticks and 4/16 (25.00%) in symptomatic cattle’s blood. The obtained ompA and ompB sequences from Hy. asiaticum ticks showed 99.73%–99.87% wit...

Persistence on subcutaneous tocilizumab as monotherapy or in combination with synthetic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs in rheumatoid arthritis patients in Greece (EMBRACE study): a multicenter, post-marketing, non-interventional, observational trial
ConclusionsThe current study confirms the favorable safety and effectiveness of TCZ-SC as well as its acceptability by RA patients in Greece, with sustained high persistence rates up to 52  weeks. TCZ-SC offers a sustainable treatment response in RA.Key Points•Based upon clinical and patient-reported outcomes, TCZ-SC is a highly effective and safe treatment modality in patients with moderate-to-severe RA.•Persistence to TCZ-SC was high throughout the study, both as monotherapy and in combination with csDMARDs.•TCZ-SC is effective both as monotherapy and when used in combination with other csDMARDs regardless of the ...

Anexelekto (AXL) no more: microRNA-155 (miR-155) controls the “Uncontrolled” in SARS-CoV-2
AbstractAXL is the gene that encodes the Anexelekto (AXL) receptor tyrosine kinase that demonstrates significant roles in various cellular processes, including cell growth, survival, and migration. Anexelekto is a Greek word meaning excessive and uncontrolled, semantically implying the crucial involvement of AXL in cancer and immune biology, and in promoting cancer metastasis. AXL overexpression appears to drive epithelial to mesenchymal transition, tumor angiogenesis, decreased antitumor immune response, and resistance to therapeutic agents. Recently, AXL has been reported to play important roles in several viral infectio...

Clarifying Human Dignity in Forensic Practice
We present recent scholarship related to human dignity and highlight the importance of dignity in forensic practice. Focusing on dignity in evaluator-evaluee and doctor-patient relationships should improve forensic work. Training in dignity-imbued forensic practice should remind us of the human dimensions of those we serve in the forensic arena.PMID:38467446 | DOI:10.29158/JAAPL.230118-23 (Source: Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law)
