Comparison of Integrase Strand Transfer Inhibitors (INSTIs) and Protease-Boosted Inhibitors (PIs) on the Reduction in Chronic Immune Activation in a Virally Suppressed, Mainly Male Population Living with HIV (PLWH)
Conclusions: Further investigation is warranted for PLWH on cART-containing INSTI regimens to explore potential reductions in chronic immune activation and intestinal bacterial translocation.PMID:38399618 | PMC:PMC10890512 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60020331 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 906: The Gap of Health Inequalities Amongst Lung Cancer Patients of Different Socioeconomic Status: A Brief Reference to the Greek Reality
Syrigos Lung cancer treatment and patient care are constantly improving, but it remains doubtful whether this applies equally to all socioeconomic groups. It is nowadays well established that there are socioeconomic inequalities regarding lung cancer incidence, screening, effective treatment, overall survival, and prognosis. One of the key contributing factors to low socioeconomic status is low education. Low educational level is correlated with several factors, such as smoking habits, bad lifestyle behaviors, lower paid and unhealthier occupations, polluted neighborhoods, and genetic-familial risk, that lead to incre...

Prevalence of sunscreen use and sunburn in Greek athletes: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Sunscreen utilization is notably insufficient among athletes, reflecting a limited awareness of the potential risks associated with sun exposure, even though they frequently suffer from sunburn. This heightened susceptibility places them at an increased risk of developing skin lesions. Initiating and disseminating awareness campaigns that specifically emphasize the importance of sunscreen use within the outdoor sports community is imperative.PMID:38385636 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.23.15559-9 (Source: Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness)

Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in the Balkans: Clonal distribution and associated resistance determinants
Acta Microbiol Immunol Hung. 2024 Feb 21. doi: 10.1556/030.2024.02230. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCarbapenems are considered to be among the last line antibiotics against extended-spectrum β-lactamase producing Enterobacterales. Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) has been frequently reported and its spread in Europe is indisputable and poses an enormous threat to hospitalized patients which is of growing concern. This review aims to record prevalence of CRKP in the Balkan region and to review the current knowledge about this life-threatening pathogen. In this review, we summarize data about clinical isol...
