Colorectal carcinoma peritoneal metastases-derived organoids: results and perspective of a model for tailoring hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy from bench-to-bedside
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that PDOs could be a reliable in vitro model to evaluate HIPEC schemes at individual-patient level and to develop more effective treatment strategies for CRCPM.PMID:38698446 | DOI:10.1186/s13046-024-03052-5 (Source: Cell Research)

Real-World Evidence of FOLFIRI Combined with Anti-Angiogenesis Inhibitors or Anti-EGFR Antibodies for Patients with Early Recurrence Colorectal Cancer After Adjuvant FOLFOX/CAPOX Therapy: A Japanese Claims Database Study
ConclusionsThis is the first administrative data-based real-world evidence on treatment sequence and outcomes for patients with early recurrence CRC treated with FOLFIRI+AAs or FOLFIRI+ anti-EGFR antibodies after adjuvant FOLFOX/CAPOX therapy in Japan. Both regimens had similar TTD, but relapse timing and tumor sidedness may influence their efficacy. (Source: Targeted Oncology)

Hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy, lenvatinib plus programmed cell death protein-1 inhibitors: A promising treatment approach for high-burden hepatocellular carcinoma
CONCLUSION: The combination of HAIC-FOLFOX with lenvatinib and PD-1 inhibitors as a first-line therapy has exhibited notable therapeutic efficacy and well-tolerated adverse events among patients with high-burden HCC.PMID:38686567 | DOI:10.1002/cam4.7105 (Source: Cancer Control)

Evaluation of Stages, Treatment Protocols, and Outcomes of Colorectal Cancer among West Bank Patients
Conclusions: A high percentage of patients were diagnosed in advanced CRC stages. The treatment modes were adopted from general international guidelines; however, the cure rates were low, and mortality was high. More studies need to be undertaken to investigate the actual application of chemotherapy protocols, and survival would benefit from the involvement of clinical pharmacists in the chemotherapy protocol selection, dosing, frequency, and follow-up. The present study advocates for greater public awareness of CRC and attests to the merits of screening by primary care professionals, which can help to avoid this serious i...

Exploring the impact of MiR-92a-3p on FOLFOX chemoresistance biomarker genes in colon cancer cell lines
Conclusion: We found that miR-92a-3p does not upregulate the expression of proteins of DNA-repair pathways and other genes involved in FOLFOX chemotherapy resistance.PMID:38659583 | PMC:PMC11039864 | DOI:10.3389/fphar.2024.1376638 (Source: Cancer Control)

The Molecular Characteristics and Therapeutic Implications of O-Glycan Synthesis in Pancreatic Cancer by Integrating Transcriptome and Single-Cell Data
CONCLUSION: We first constructed molecular subtypes and prognostic models related to O-glycan biosynthesis in PC. It is clear that O-glycan biosynthesis is related to the development, prognosis, immune microenvironment, and treatment of PC. This provides new strategies for stratification, diagnosis, and treatment of PC patients.PMID:38659264 | DOI:10.2174/0109298673293445240409060446 (Source: Current Medicinal Chemistry)

First-line oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy and nivolumab for metastatic microsatellite-stable colorectal cancer-the randomised METIMMOX trial
CONCLUSIONS: The investigational regimen did not improve the primary outcome for the intention-to-treat population but might benefit small subgroups of patients with previously untreated, metastatic microsatellite-stable colorectal cancer.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT03388190 (02/01/2018).PMID:38664577 | DOI:10.1038/s41416-024-02696-6 (Source: Cancer Control)

Helminth-derived molecules improve 5-fluorouracil treatment on experimental colon tumorigenesis
Biomed Pharmacother. 2024 Apr 24;175:116628. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2024.116628. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTColorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most prevalent fatal neoplasias worldwide. Despite efforts to improve the early diagnosis of CRC, the mortality rate of patients is still nearly 50%. The primary treatment strategy for CRC is surgery, which may be accompanied by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The conventional and first-line chemotherapeutic agent utilized is 5-fluorouracil (5FU). However, it has low efficiency. Combination treatment with leucovorin and oxaliplatin or irinotecan improves the effectiveness of 5FU...

Microcystin-LR Improves Anti-Tumor Efficacy of Oxaliplatin through Induction of M1 Macrophage Polarization
In this study, we used microcystin-LR (MC-LR), a cyclic heptapeptide produced by cyanobacteria, to induce in vitro macrophage innate immunity and transition into the anti-tumor M1 phenotype. MC-LR was also tested in vivo in a mouse model of colorectal cancer. An intraperitoneal injection of MC-LR increased the proportion of CD86⁺ M1 macrophages and triggered the maturation of CD11c⁺ dendritic cells within tumor tissues. MC-LR combined with the chemotherapeutic drug oxaliplatin significantly inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Flow cytometry analysis revealed increased infiltration of activated cytotoxic (CD8⁺, PD-1⁺) T...
