Clinicopathological Predictors of Positive Resection Margins in Breast-Conserving Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with pure IBC, the relative risk of a positive margin with IBC + DCIS is approximately ninefold, significantly higher than prior estimates. This margin-level methodology is believed to represent the impact of DCIS more accurately on margin positivity in IBC.PMID:38520579 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15153-8 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Re-Evaluation of Ipsilateral Multiple-Focal Breast Cancer: Case Report and Literature Review
CONCLUSION: This case highlights the need for more evidence-based data to support risk-level stratification of heterogenous foci and treatment decisions for ipsilateral multiple breast cancer and challenges current clinical practice.PMID:38518165 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Long-term outcome of 9G MRI-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy: results of 293 single-center procedures and underestimation rate of high-risk lesions over 12  years
ConclusionOur results confirm that 1.5  T and 3 T MRI-guided VABB is an accurate and safe procedure for histopathologic final diagnosis of MRI-only lesions. Critical issues remain the potential high-risk underestimation rate of B3b VABB results and management of follow-up of benign lesions. (Source: La Radiologia Medica)

Tumour-to-tumour metastasis of breast cancer (donor) and clear cell renal cell carcinoma (recipient): a case report
A woman in her late 70s was referred to urology clinic to consider intervention for a biopsy-proven 24 mm WHO/International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) grade 1 clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC) that was diagnosed 4 years prior and managed with active surveillance up to that point. The patient had a history of right invasive breast cancer (ductal carcinoma) first diagnosed more than 20 years ago and treated with wide local excision and adjuvant radiotherapy. She developed breast cancer recurrence in the scalp and chest wall 3 years before and was treated with letrozole, with satisfactory disease control. Fo...

Breast tissue imaging atlas using ultra-fast confocal microscopy to identify cancer lesions
The objective of the study was to create an atlas of ex vivo UFCM images of breast tissues and breast carcinomas based on the first extensive collection of large field-of-view UFCM breast images. One hundred sixty patients who underwent conserving surgery for breast cancer were included. Their fresh surgical specimens were sliced, stained with acridine orange, and imaged at high resolution with large-field-of-view UFCM. The resulting images were digitally false colored to resemble frozen sections. Each UFCM image was correlated with the corresponding definitive histology. Representative images of normal tissue, inflammatio...

Surgical outcomes of total duct excision in the diagnosis and management of nipple discharge
CONCLUSIONS: TDE can be considered for the diagnostics and management of nipple discharge. Blood-stained nipple discharge increases the risk of DCIS or malignancy, but the majority of the time TDE reveals benign breast pathology.PMID:38497796 | DOI:10.1308/rcsann.2022.0093 (Source: Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England)
