Photochemical reaction of glucocorticoids in aqueous solution: Influencing factors and photolysis products
Chemosphere. 2023 Apr 27:138799. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.138799. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlucocorticoids (GCs), as endocrine disruptors, have attracted widespread attention due to their impacts on organisms' growth, development, and reproduction. In the current study, the photodegradation of budesonide (BD) and clobetasol propionate (CP), as targeted GCs, was investigated including the effects of initial concentrations and typical environmental factors (Cl-, NO2-, Fe3+, and fulvic acid (FA)). The results showed that the degradation rate constants (k) were 0.0060 and 0.0039 min-1 for BD and CP at concentration...

A case of naevoid blaschkoid psoriasis in a two-year-old child
Nirjhar Mondal, Somnath Das, Tirthankar Gayen, Sudip MandalIndian Journal of Dermatology 2023 68(1):123-123 Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated skin disorder characterised by well-demarcated erythematous plaque with micaceous scale. Naevoid Blaschkoid psoriasis is an unusual subtype that occurs along Blaschko lines. A two-year-old boy presented with erythematous scaly lesions distributed along the lines of Blaschko over the bilateral upper limb, the front of the chest, back, and the right lower limb. The lesions appeared four months ago and slowly progressed. There was no history of trauma, no skin lesions in other pa...

The Effects of Mucopolysaccharide Polysulfate on Steroid-Induced Tight Junction Barrier Dysfunction in Human Epidermal Keratinocytes and a 3D Skin Model
Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that MPS improved TJ barrier impairment induced by CP. The improvement of TJ barrier function may partially be responsible for the delayed relapse of AD induced by the combination of MPS and TCS. (Source: Skin Pharmacology and Physiology)

Comparative efficacy of antiviral agents for prevention and management of herpes labialis: a systematic review and network meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: NMA highlighted that several agents were effective in the management of herpes labialis among which the combination of oral valacyclovir with topical clobetasol therapy was the most effective in reducing the time to heal. However, further studies are required to determine which intervention is the most effective in preventing the recurrence of herpes labialis.PMID:36914303 | DOI:10.1016/j.jebdp.2022.101778 (Source: Herpes)

Randomized clinical trial with fractional CO2 laser and Clobetasol in the treatment of Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus: a clinic study of feasibility
The main objective of the study was to describe and compare the feasibility of using fractional CO2 laser to the usual treatment with Clobetasol. Randomized clinical trials brought together 20 women from a Brazil... (Source: BMC Research Notes)

Tough Adhesive Hydrogel for Intraoral Adhesion and Drug Delivery
J Dent Res. 2023 Mar 8:220345221148684. doi: 10.1177/00220345221148684. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOral lichen planus (OLP) and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) are common chronic inflammatory conditions, manifesting as painful oral lesions that negatively affect patients' quality of life. Current treatment approaches are mainly palliative and often ineffective due to inadequate contact time of the therapeutic agent with the lesions. Here, we developed the Dental Tough Adhesive (DenTAl), a bioinspired adhesive patch with robust mechanical properties, capable of strong adhesion against diverse wet and dynamically movi...

Mycosis fungoides with Psoriasiform plaques: A case report and review of the literature
AbstractMycosis fungoides (MF) is the most common variant of primary skin T-cell lymphoma. It typically manifests as an indolent progressing cutaneous eruption with erythematous scaly patches or plaques. Due to the nonspecific pathological findings, it can be easily misdiagnosed as psoriasis. A 34-year-old woman with a history of psoriasiform plaques for 12  years was referred to our dermatology clinic. In the beginning, the diagnosis of psoriasis was made and topical steroids were prescribed: it did not exhibit any clinical improvement. During the visit, skin biopsy was performed and the diagnosis of MF was confirmed. T...

Comparative evaluation of the efficacy of Nigella sativa (75% v/v) cream and clobetasol propionate (0.05% w/w) gel in oral lichen planus —a double-blinded randomized control trial
ConclusionThe topical application ofNigella sativa cream was effective and comparable to clobetasol propionate 0.05% gel in the management of OLP, without any side effects. Hence, this study recommends the use of topicalNigella sativa cream therapy in the management of OLP.Clinical relevanceThe current mainstay of treatment for OLP is the administration of topical or systemic corticosteroids, which are known to cause side effects, demanding a search for an alternative.Nigella sativa oil cream could be a safe, promising, cost-effective, adjunctive, or alternative modality.Clinical trial registration  number: CTRI/2020/07/0...

Steroid abuse, quality of life, and various risk factors in dermatophytosis: a cross-sectional observational study from a tertiary care center in northern India
CONCLUSION: Dermatophytosis was found to have a significant adverse impact on QOL. As seen in this study, the widespread abuse of steroids may be a leading cause of the emergence of recalcitrant tinea in India.PMID:36541395 (Source: Acta Dermatovenerologica Alpina, Panonica, et Adriatica)
