Mystery illness - seeking opinions
Hi! I guess I am just looking for opinions on whether or not I should seek CF testing. I'm sorry this is so long! Thank you in advance to anyone who can offer some advice. I've been "sick" on and off for a few years now. As a child I had strep throat A LOT until my tonsils were removed. I was also suspected to have asthma. I don't know how it was decided I didn't. I cleared my throat absolutely constantly but to my knowledge this was not investigated. As a preteen I had a heart murmur that apparently went away and had a couple fainting episodes and was diagnosed with syncope. I was pretty healthy through my t...

Sweat Test after CFTR Test Negative
I am in my mid-forties and have problems with abdominal pain since I was a teenager. I have just been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. I had a genetic CFTR sequencing done with deletions/duplications via aCGH this past summer. The only variations that showed up in the tests were the following common variants. v470m heterozygous p1290p heterozygous t854t heterozygous g1463g heterozygous I am going to meet with the gastroenterologist next week and I was wondering if it is appropriate to ask for a chloride sweat test before ruling out cystic fibrosis as a cause. They have ruled out other causes such as alcohol, ga...

Caribbean MD vs Stateside DO
by nontraditional1 (Posted Wed Jul 02, 2014 12:15 am)Hello everyone.I just wanted to start off by saying that I really enjoy this forum and others like it.I am a very non-traditional pre-medical applicant. I am 46 years old and have been a very successful practicing DC in Texas for nearly twenty years. I have mainly a family chiropractic practice, however, I have a MD, DO and a PA that sublease in my office and do chronic pain management, and family practice respectively. I have always wanted to be a physician. I kind of fell into chiropractic by circumstance and not really by passion. I am very grateful for the sucess aff...

3 y/o post lap chole
Just checking how many have dealt with their kiddos having a cholecystectomy?? My 3 y/o son had his gall bladder removed at the end if October after having many issues eating. Biopsy showed chronic inflammation. Surgeon said this was common with CF kiddos. since surgery he is having some biliary spasms and severe back pain intermittently. His appetite is better overall, but wondering how long this might go on. He is on Levsin to help with the pain. Just checking to see how everyone's else's kids faired afterwards.
