A rare case of skin metastasis from a chordoma
Dermatol Online J. 2023 Aug 15;29(4). doi: 10.5070/D329461862.ABSTRACTChordoma is an uncommon, indolent malignant tumor arising from notochordal remnants. The incidence of distant metastasis varies between 30 and 40% in different series. Even though local involvement of the skin by direct invasion of chordoma is common, distant skin metastasis are rare, with less than 30 cases reported in the literature. The present clinical case illustrates the slow-growing natural history of a sacral chordoma, which evolved with lung metastasis, followed three years later by skin metastasis, thus giving us the opportunity to review the d...

Endoscopic Endonasal Approach for Clival Chordomas in Elderly Patients: Clinical Characteristics, Patient Outcome, and Recurrence Rate
Conclusion EEA can be a useful approach in elderlies, balancing the large tumor removal with an acceptable morbidity rate, even if higher than that for general CC population. However, patient selection remains crucial. A multidisciplinary evaluation is important to assess not only their medical conditions, but also their social and familiar conditions. Carbon Ion Radiotherapy: An Evidence-Based Review and Summary Recommendations of Clinical Outcomes for Skull-Base Chordomas and Chondrosarcomas
Cancers (Basel). 2023 Oct 17;15(20):5021. doi: 10.3390/cancers15205021.ABSTRACTSkull-base chordoma and chondrosarcoma are rare radioresistant tumors treated with surgical resection and/or radiotherapy. Because of the established dosimetric and biological benefits of heavy particle therapy, we performed a systematic and evidence-based review of the clinical outcomes of patients with skull-base chordoma and chondrosarcoma treated with carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT). A literature review was performed using a MEDLINE search of all articles to date. We identified 227 studies as appropriate for review, and 24 were ultimately inc...

Assessing survival outcomes and complication profiles following surgical excision and radiotherapy as interventions for skull base chordoma: a systematic review of operative margins and surgical approaches
ConclusionOverall, these results indicate good 5-year survival outcomes for patients with skull base chordoma; however, 10-year prognosis for skull base chordoma remains poor due to its radiotherapeutic resistance and high recurrence rate. Furthermore, mortality rates among patients undergoing midline versus lateral skull base approaches appear to be equivocal. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Imaging findings of arrested pneumatisation and differentiation from other skull base lesions
CONCLUSIONS: The characteristic imaging findings of AP, namely non-expansile on CT and non-uptake on FDG-PET, may aid in its differentiation from other skull base lesions.PMID:37870117 | DOI:10.1259/dmfr.20230297 (Source: Dentomaxillofacial Radiology)

Longitudinal treatment outcomes of recurrent clival chordomas: a single-center retrospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Despite the aggressive nature of recurrent chordoma, 14 of 29 patients (48%) survived for more than 5 years after the initial recurrence using combined therapies. Multiple treatment options may contribute to the long-term survival of patients with this intractable tumor.PMID:37856417 | DOI:10.3171/2023.7.JNS231196 (Source: Journal of Neurosurgery)

Endoscopic transsphenoidal approach in resection of intracranial clivus chondrosarcoma: A case report
Oncol Lett. 2023 Oct 3;26(5):498. doi: 10.3892/ol.2023.14085. eCollection 2023 Nov.ABSTRACTIntracranial primary chondrosarcomas are rare, accounting for <0.15% of all intracranial tumors, but exhibit a high risk of recurrence. Due to the rarity of this condition, it has proven difficult to establish efficacy-based treatment guidelines. The present study details a case of clivus chondrosarcoma exhibiting no recurrence following surgical resection using an endoscopic transsphenoidal approach and postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy. A 41-year-old female presented with primary symptoms of left eye esotropia, scotoma of the ...
