Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1012: The Capacity of Drug-Metabolising Enzymes in Modulating the Therapeutic Efficacy of Drugs to Treat Rhabdomyosarcoma
Klaus Pors Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a rare soft tissue sarcoma (STS) that predominantly affects children and teenagers. It is the most common STS in children (40%) and accounts for 5–8% of total childhood malignancies. Apart from surgery and radiotherapy in eligible patients, standard chemotherapy is the only therapeutic option clinically available for RMS patients. While survival rates for this childhood cancer have considerably improved over the last few decades for low-risk and intermediate-risk cases, the mortality rate remains exceptionally high in high-risk RMS patients with recurrent and/or metas...

Female Fertility Cryopreservation Outcomes in Childhood Cancer: A Systematic Review
As survival rates in childhood cancer progress significantly, health outcomes in adulthood are pivotal to quality of life (QoL). Female patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation for childhood cancer may experience adverse effects such as gonadotoxicity-related ovarian insufficiency. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) is well studied in adults, but has only recently started to be explored in an effort to preserve fertility in young patients with childhood cancer. This systematic review aims to critically highlight contemporary outcomes of cryopreservation in female pediatric cancer patients. (Source: Journal of Pediatric Surgery)

Clinically-relevant Germline Variants in Children with Non-Medullary Thyroid Cancer
CONCLUSION: The reported prevalence (13%) of germline variants in well-known tumor predisposing genes and the added value of a revised personal-/family history and histology led us to recommend genetic counseling for all childhood NMTC patients. The detected tumor predisposition syndromes are associated with a risk for second cancers which necessitates additional surveillance of the index patients and pre-symptomatic genetic testing of at risk family members.PMID:38415346 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae107 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

The rationale for nephron-sparing surgery in unilateral non-syndromic Wilms tumour
AbstractThe central question of nephron-sparing surgery in unilateral non-syndromic Wilms tumour sits at a crossroads between surgery, oncology, and nephrology. There has been a significant paradigm shift in paediatric oncology towards reducing toxicity and addressing long-term treatment-related sequalae amongst childhood cancer survivors. After paediatric nephrectomy and 30 –50 years of follow-up, 40% of patients will have chronic kidney disease, including 22% with hypertension and 23% with albuminuria. It is difficult to predict which patients will progress to develop hypertension, reduced glomerular filtration rate, ...
