A Comparison of Amyloid Deposition in  Endoscopic and Open Carpal Tunnel Release
Previous investigations assessing the incidence of amyloidosis detected with biopsy during carpal tunnel release (CTR) have focused on open CTR (OCTR). Prior authors have suggested that biopsy may be more technically challenging during endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR). Our purpose was to compare differences in the incidence of amyloid deposition detected during ECTR versus OCTR. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

Being a Better Starfish Thrower, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and Cardiac Amyloidosis: The Hand Surgeon ’s Opportunity to Make a Profound Difference
In recent years, there is increasing literature in cardiac and hand surgery journals demonstrating a stronger association between seemingly idiopathic carpal tunnel and amyloidosis. Despite this, it can be difficult for hand surgeons to identify who need biopsies, and this is further complicated by the cost of a biopsy and the low likelihood that a patient has cardiac amyloidosis. In patients with cardiac amyloidosis and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), CTS is typically diagnosed 5 –10 years prior. Early diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis is crucial, as current medications work to slow disease progression, but do not treat ex...

Modified Scoring of the QuickDASH Can Achieve Previously-unattained Interval-level Measurement in Dupuytren Disease and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: This study proposes a modification to the scoring system for the QuickDASH that provides high-quality, continuous, and condition-specific scales for the QuickDASH. The identification of distinct subscales within the QuickDASH can be used to identify distinct improvements in hand function and/or symptoms in previous, current, and future work.PMID:38333027 | PMC:PMC10852374 | DOI:10.1097/GOX.0000000000005372 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Efficacy of focused shockwave therapy in patients with moderate-to-severe carpal tunnel syndrome: a preliminary study
CONCLUSION: Focused extracorporeal shockwave therapy plus conservative treatment effectively provided short-term improvement in symptoms, hand function, and nerve conduction in patients with moderate-to-severe carpal tunnel syndrome compared with conservative treatment alone.PMID:38332536 | PMC:PMC10865893 | DOI:10.2340/jrm.v56.13411 (Source: Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine)

Neurofascialvascular training for carpal tunnel syndrome as an evolution of neurodynamic treatment: A case report
In this case report a new approach called neurofascialvascular training (NFVT) is described. NFVT consists of two mechanisms which improve mechanosensitivity in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The first involves increased blood flow in the nerve microcirculation, while the second stimulates the reciprocal sliding between the thin sheets of connective tissue inside the nerve. The goal of these two actions is to squeeze, mobilize and reduce intraneural edema. The novelty of this approach is the simultaneous involvement of multiple physiological systems to reduce nerve mechanosensitivity. (Source: Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies)

Aptis Distal Radioulnar Joint Implant: Management of Remarkable Complications
Conclusion This study describes remarkable complications related to the Aptis implants in wrists with more rare conditions. The implant is more likely to fail in wrists with poor bone stock, remodeling of the radius, deformation, and malformation of the radius. The range of indications for the usage of the implant to maintain wrist function may be strict. Level of Evidence IV. What Is a Surgical Site Infection After Carpal Tunnel Release?
Considerable variation exists in the literature on published rates of surgical site infection (SSI) after carpal tunnel release, ranging over 20-fold, from 0.28% to 6.4%. The reason for this variability is unknown. (Source: The Journal of Hand Surgery)

B-Mode ultrasound imaging in diagnosing carpal tunnel syndrome: an auxiliary diagnostic tool for hand surgeons
ConclusionThe article concludes that B-Mode ultrasound should be considered a valuable supplementary diagnostic tool for CTS, particularly in instances where clinical signs and electrophysiological studies do not offer clear results. However, it should not replace established diagnostic methods for CTS. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

A randomized clinical trial on the changing of median nerve cross-sectional area and pain after extracorporeal shock wave and low-level laser therapy added to conventional physical therapy in patients with mild-to-moderate carpal tunnel syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common mononeuropathy in the upper limb. It remains uncertain whether adding extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) or low-level laser therapy (LLLT) to conventional treatment benefits CTS patients. (Source: Journal of Hand Therapy)

Approach to chronic wrist pain in adults: Review of common pathologies for primary care practitioners
CONCLUSION: Chronic wrist pain is a functionally limiting problem best managed with timely diagnosis and treatment. A thorough history and physical examination are the cornerstones of an effective evaluation. When diagnosis is delayed, some wrist pathologies can lead to relatively poor outcomes, such as a scaphoid fracture nonunion resulting in diffuse wrist osteoarthritis.PMID:38262758 | DOI:10.46747/cfp.700116 (Source: Canadian Family Physician Medecin de Famille Canadien)
