Physical and psychosocial work-related exposures and the incidence of carpal tunnel syndrome: A systematic review of prospective studies
Appl Ergon. 2024 Jan 9;117:104211. doi: 10.1016/j.apergo.2023.104211. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis systematic review summarizes the evidence on associations between physical and psychosocial work-related exposures and the development of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Relevant databases were searched up to January 2020 for cohort studies reporting associations between work-related physical or psychosocial risk factors and the incidence of CTS. Two independent reviewers selected eligible studies, extracted relevant data, and assessed risk of bias (RoB). We identified fourteen articles for inclusion which reported data f...

Surgical versus non-surgical treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: Currently, the efficacy of surgery in people with CTS is unclear. It is also unclear if the results can be applied to people who are not satisfied after trying various non-surgical options. Future studies should preferably blind participants from treatment allocation and randomise people who are dissatisfied after being treated non-surgically. The decision for a patient to opt for surgery should balance the small benefits and potential risks of surgery. Patients with severe symptoms, a high preference for clinical improvement and reluctance to adhere to non-surgical options, and who do not consider potential s...

Effects of kinesio taping with and without active release technique in carpal tunnel syndrome
CONCLUSION: Kinesio taping with the active release technique procured significantly greater improvement in pain, range of motion and functional disability than kinesio taping alone.PMID:38190964 | DOI:10.1016/j.hansur.2024.101633 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Breakthrough advances enhancing care in ATTR amyloid cardiomyopathy
Eur J Intern Med. 2024 Jan 5:S0953-6205(24)00001-3. doi: 10.1016/j.ejim.2024.01.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTransthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) has been traditionally considered a rare and inexorably fatal condition. ATTR-CM now is an increasingly recognized cause of heart failure (HF) and mortality worldwide with effective pharmacological treatments. Advances in non-invasive diagnosis, coupled with the development of effective treatments, have transformed the diagnosis of ATTR-CM, which is now possible without recourse to endomyocardial biopsy in ≈70 % of cases. Many patients are now diagnosed at an ea...

Altered brain function and structure in carpal tunnel syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis of structural and functional brain imaging
Brain Struct Funct. 2024 Jan 2. doi: 10.1007/s00429-023-02737-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis systematic review with a meta-analysis aimed to identify the altered brain structure and function in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) by summarizing the literature about magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and magnetoencephalography (MEG) outcomes compared to healthy controls (HC). CTS is the most common nerve entrapment in the arm associated with altered peripheral and central nociceptive system. PRISMA guidelines were used to report the outcomes. Six databases were searched for relev...
