Altered brain function and structure in carpal tunnel syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis of structural and functional brain imaging
Brain Struct Funct. 2024 Jan 2. doi: 10.1007/s00429-023-02737-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis systematic review with a meta-analysis aimed to identify the altered brain structure and function in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) by summarizing the literature about magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and magnetoencephalography (MEG) outcomes compared to healthy controls (HC). CTS is the most common nerve entrapment in the arm associated with altered peripheral and central nociceptive system. PRISMA guidelines were used to report the outcomes. Six databases were searched for relev...

A Comparison of Early Complication Rates of Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release With and Without Resident Involvement
CONCLUSIONS: The results of ECTR performed entirely or in part by attending-supervised resident trainees were not inferior to ECTR performed by an attending surgeon regarding the odds of experiencing complications or conversion to an open procedure. With appropriate supervision, ECTR can be performed safely by orthopedic and plastic surgery residents.TYPE OF STUDY/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic II.PMID:38159093 | DOI:10.1016/j.jhsa.2023.11.019 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Effect of Contractubex phonophoresis on postsurgical scar of carpal tunnel release: A case report
Key Clinical MessageContractubex phonophoresis can be used in clinical setting to manage postsurgical scar after carpal tunnel release. Contractubex phonophoresis can improve pliability, height, and tenderness of the scar.AbstractScar is one of the most common complications after open release of carpal tunnel. Scars are mentally and physically disturbing, and they can result into itching and pain. Scar after release of carpal tunnel can lead to compression of median nerve and failure of surgery. Various treatments are suggested for scar management. topical drugs are one of these treatments. Phonophoresis of topical drugs c...

Occupational and non-occupational risk factors correlating with the severity of clinical manifestations of carpal tunnel syndrome and related work disability among workers who work with a computer
The objective, neural impairments were tested with electrodiagnostics (EDX), whereas CTS-related work disability data were collected from medical records. We found a high inter-correlation between BCTQ, EDX, and work disability data. These also showed high correlations with certain occupational factors (duration of computer-working in months and hours spent daily in computer-working, certain ergonomic, microclimatic, and other occupational conditions) and non-occupational factors (demographic and lifestyle factors: nutritional status, diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, and physical activity). Despite its limitations, our ...
