Prenatal antibiotic exposure and risk of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder: a population-based cohort study.
We examined the association between prenatal antibiotic exposure and risk of ADHD. METHODS: We conducted a population-based retrospective cohort study of children born in Manitoba, Canada, between 1998 and 2017 and their mothers. We defined exposure as the mother having filled 1 or more antibiotic prescriptions during pregnancy. The outcome was diagnosis of ADHD in the offspring, as identified in administrative databases. We estimated hazard ratios (HRs) using Cox proportional hazards regression in the overall cohort, in a separate cohort matched on high-dimensional propensity scores and in a sibling cohort. RESULT...

Thyroid function testing and management during and after pregnancy among women without thyroid disease before pregnancy.
Authors: Yamamoto JM, Metcalfe A, Nerenberg KA, Khurana R, Chin A, Donovan LE Abstract BACKGROUND: Screening in pregnancy for subclinical hypothyroidism, often defined as thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) greater than 2.5 mIU/L or greater than 4.0 mIU/L, is controversial. We determined the frequency and distribution of TSH testing by gestational age, as well as TSH values associated with treatment during pregnancy and the frequency of postpartum continuation of thyroid hormone therapy. METHODS: We performed a retrospective cohort study of pregnancies in Alberta, Canada. We included women without thyroid disease...
