Surviving cardiac arrest after carbon monoxide poisoning treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Undersea Hyperb Med. 2024 First Quarter;51(1):37-40.ABSTRACTCarbon monoxide (CO) and cyanide poisoning are frequent causes of morbidity and mortality in cases of house and industrial fires. The 14th edition of guidelines from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society does not recommend hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) treatment in those patients who have suffered a cardiac arrest and had to receive cardiopulmonary resuscitation. In this paper, we describe the case of a 31-year-old patient who received HBO2 treatment in the setting of cardiac arrest and survived.PMID:38615351 (Source: Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine)

Unidentical Twins: Geometrically Similar but Chemically Distinct Metal-free Sites in Boron Oxide for Methane Oxidation to HCHO, CO and CO2
Chemistry. 2024 Apr 12:e202401050. doi: 10.1002/chem.202401050. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetal-free boron-based catalysts such as boron oxide (B2O3) and boron nitride (h-BN) are promising catalysts for the methane oxidation to HCHO and CO. The B2O3 catalyst contains various probable boron sites (B1 to B6), which may be responsible for methane oxidation. In this work, we utilized density functional theory to compare two relevant geometrically identical boron sites (B2 and B4) for their reactivities. The two sites are explored in-detail for the conversion of methane to formaldehyde (M2F), carbon monoxide and carbon diox...

Clinical course of mild-to-moderate idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis during therapy with pirfenidone: Results of the non-interventional study AERplus
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study are in line with the established benefit-risk profile of pirfenidone. Therefore, pirfenidone can be considered a valuable treatment option to slow disease progression in mild-to-moderate idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. In situ/Operando Synchrotron Analytical Techniques for CO2/CO Reduction Reaction: From Atomic Scales to Mesoscales
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 Apr 10:e202404213. doi: 10.1002/anie.202404213. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTElectrocatalytic carbon dioxide/carbon monoxide reduction reaction (CO(2)RR) has emerged as a prospective and appealing strategy to realize carbon neutrality for manufacturing sustainable chemical products. Developing highly active electrocatalysts and stable devices has been demonstrated as effective approach to enhancing the conversion efficiency of CO(2)RR. In order to rationally design electrocatalysts and devices, a comprehensive understanding of the intrinsic structure evolution within catalysts and micro-enviro...

Exposure to benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) at Nigeria's petrol stations: a review of current status, challenges and future directions
DISCUSSION: Currently, regulatory bodies' effectiveness and accountability in safeguarding OHS at NPSs leave much to be desired. Understanding the OHS of NPSs would inform future initiatives, policies, and regulations that would promote the health and safety of workers at NPSs. However, further studies need to be conducted to describe the vulnerability of PSWs and other Nigerians who are occupationally exposed to BTEX pollution. More importantly, controlling air pollution from hazardous air pollutants like BTEX is an essential component of OHS and integral to attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3, 7, and 11.P...
