WAMC: MCAT 504, gpa: 3.8
Hey guys. I wanted some help making my school list and was primarily thinking my stats would best be suited for DO. I would like to apply to some lower-tier MDs as well. Something to take into consideration for my app is that i had cancer throughout college so it impacted the types of ECs and the way I did on the MCAT. I am currently a senior biomedical engineering major and plan to apply this cycle and work at a MA for a clinic. cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS... Lung SBRT sans biopsy
Probably discussed before, but there are certain instances where imaging findings and history are such that various nodule nomograms would say >95% chance a particular nodule is NSCLC. I'm wondering how often people are treating with no meat, whether there's a greater risk to biopsy than SBRT, or simply patient refusal, and how you're coding this, as in, as a clinical dx of lung cancer or as a pulm nodule. I'm also not infrequently seeing patients who had a pneumo after a nondiagnostic biopsy. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pelvic exams and cancer
So on the big Physcian community Facebook group there was a thread topic saying that ED/PCPs do not do as many pelvics as one OBGYN would like. They all list cancer as why pelvics should be done. There were a few posts saying it was malpractice for missing cancer. But when I do my pelvics and the cervix looks nonuniform I just tell them to go to OBGYN. Even if it is a necrotic mass Gyn says they should still follow up in the office. I see for foriegn body removal or lac repair (calling... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

example of absurdity of current state of US healthcare
I'm generally not an anti-government dude, and there's certainly much bigger issues to deal with when it comes to the US healthcare apparatus, but just encountered an small example of how ridiculous and poorly run US healthcare is becoming. the USPSTF, a panel funded and appointed by the US Department of Health and Human Services, a cabinet level department level of the federal government, recommends low dose CT for lung cancer screening for ages 50-80. Medicare, a government... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
