Characteristics of Transgender and Gender-Diverse Youth Presenting for Surgery in the United States
CONCLUSIONS: We reported the perioperative characteristics of TGD youth and showed a steady increase in the detected prevalence of TGD adolescents accessing surgical care. Future investigations into specific challenges associated with caring for these patients are warranted.PMID:37471293 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006618 (Source: Anesthesia and Analgesia)

Narrow Inferior Central (NIC) septum –based pedicle: a safe technique to improve aesthetic outcomes in breast reduction
Inferior-central pedicle has some aesthetic drawbacks including hypertrophic scar along the IMF, squaring of the breast contours and propensity to develop long-term ‘bottoming-out’. The aim of the study is to verify if the Narrow Inferior Central (NIC) septum-based pedicle can allow the surgeon to improve aesthetic outcomes compared to the traditional inferior-central pedicle approach. The Infero-Central Mound Reduction Mammoplasty: A Single Surgeon, 20-year Experience
ConclusionInfero-central mound technique can be applied to breast reductions of nearly all sizes, allowing for consistently satisfactory aesthetic outcomes for most patients. Due to robust vascularity of the pedicle, complication rates are kept at a minimum. IC mound technique is an essential tool in the plastic surgeon ’s armamentarium.Level of Evidence IVThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. The spiral flap for breast auto-augmentation revisited
ConclusionsSpiral flap represents a good option for breast auto-augmentation in massive weight loss patients. In addition to the upper body lift achieved, the use of a superior pedicle for NAC provides a better superior fullness for the breast mound. A longer follow-up, a larger sample size, and comparative studies are needed to achieve a stronger argument and a higher level of evidence.Level of evidence: Level IV, Therapeutic. Preserving the Nipple Projection in Breast Reduction with the Free Nipple-Areolar Graft Technique: Purse-String Suture
ConclusionWe observed that PS circumferential suture made an acceptable nipple projection compared to the conventional method in breast reduction with the FNG technique. Since the method is easy to apply and has relatively low risk, it would contribute to clinical practice.Level of Evidence IV This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Along the Continuum from Reduction to Mastectomy: An Algorithmic Approach to the Gender Diverse Top Surgery Patient
The number of patients presenting for gender affirming surgery (GAS) whose gender identity is not defined within the cis or transgender binary has increased steadily.1 –3 Compared to trans-masculine patients, gender diverse patients identifying as nonbinary, agendered or other, are more likely to request a type of procedure that may be between a full chest masculinization and a standard breast reduction.3,4 The aesthetic goals for our gender diverse patients see king breast reductions may also differ from those of cis-gendered individuals. Refinement of the Superomedial Pedicle Technique: A New Approach to Breast Reshaping Following Reduction
ConclusionsWe present a simple alteration of the superomedial pedicle technique that we believe results in improved breast contouring. Our experience suggests that this simple adaptation is safe, effective, and reproducible.Level of Evidence IVThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Changing Aesthetic Surgery Interest in Men: An 18-Year Analysis
ConclusionsWhile surgical volume data are valuable, our study shows that Google Trends is a beneficial tool to predict quickly changing and specific trends, especially as the patient population of plastic surgery grows with increased diversity and generational changes. Our study shows that there is an increase in male-centered plastic surgery procedures, especially nonsurgical facial procedures. Male interest in plastic surgery will continue to increase with time.Level of Evidence IVThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Bilateral Ultrasound-Guided Erector Spinae Plane Block for Perioperative Analgesia in Breast Reduction Surgery: A Prospective Randomized and Controlled Trial
ConclusionIn breast reduction surgery, preoperative single-shot ESPB reduces perioperative opioid consumption and provides adequate pain relief within 24 h postoperatively compared to systemic analgesics alone.Trial Registration Number: NCT03621345Level of Evidence IIThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Antibiotic Prophylaxis in Reduction Mammaplasty: A Network Meta-Analysis
ConclusionsAntibiotics mitigate the SSI rate after breast reduction. This meta-analysis provides an evidence-based strategy to optimize antibiotic administration. Further research is needed though to examine antibiotic prophylaxis on delayed wound healing.Level of Evidence IIIThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article.
