WWYD? Please help!
Hello all! A bit of a backstory first. So, I was basically accepted into a program as a scrub tech. I started clinicals this semester. I'm doing well in the classes so that's not the issue. My problem is that after going to clinicals, I actually hate it. I hate standing for 4+ hours (the first surgery I got to see was a breast reduction and then lift, took a while) and while the people at the hospital are nice to me, I really cannot think about doing this even for a month or two on my own... chest pain
A patient for the group... 44yo F with a couple year history of right> left anterior chest pains along the lateral sternal border. She is allergic to NSAIDs. She wound up undergoing a breast reduction surgery to see if that would help. It did not. I performed some costochondral/sternocostal injections with steroid that were really quite helpful for a month or so. But then pains returned. Topicals and various oral medications (duloxetine, pregabalin, etc) have been tried in the past... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Breast reduction for back pain?
Greetings from the Pain Management world. I've been getting this question from patients a lot recently. Some of my patients with chronic upper back pain request referrals for breast reductions in hope of improving their pain. I was always taught(and tell patients) that it often doesn't help, but I was curious what the plastics literature might show since it still seems to be performed somewhat frequently. I would love to be able to give patients actual data so they can make informed... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Plastic Surgery Malpractice: Expert Witness Is Truthful?
I'm curious about a plastic surgeon's opinion on this med mal case and the expert witness opinion: A 51 year old woman underwent breast reduction, abdominoplasty and upper abdominal liposuction. She developed an infection, wound dehiscence, and a poor cosmetic outcome of her breasts. Plaintiffs hired an expert witness (board certified plastic surgeon) who wrote an opinion criticizing the defendant. Does it seem like a reasonable criticism that upper abdominal liposuction should not be... Plastic Surgery Malpractice: Expert Witness Is Truthful? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Psychiatric letter of medical necessity for a surgical procedure
I have an adolescent female patient who wants to get a breast reduction due to the effects her breast size have had on her, contributing to her depression and causing chronic pain. She has been wanting to have this procedure for more than a year but just recently brought it up to me. She has already met with a surgeon who recommended the procedure, and suggested she meet with me to talk about this. After discussing the impact this has had on her life, I agree that she would likely benefit... Psychiatric letter of medical necessity for a surgical procedure (Source: Student Doctor Network)
