Mastectomy is a safe procedure in transgender men with a history of breast reduction
J Plast Surg Hand Surg. 2023 Jan 9:1-5. doi: 10.1080/2000656X.2022.2164293. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLittle is known about the safety and surgical outcomes of mastectomy after breast reduction in the trans male population. Several concerns have been voiced that performing mastectomy with prior breast reduction surgery, increases the risk for complications and revision surgery. All transgender men with a history of breast reduction, who underwent a mastectomy at our center between 01-1990 and 01-2021 were identified from our hospital registry. A retrospective chart study was conducted recording surgical characteristics...

Expanding Usage of Superior Pedicled Techniques with Reducing Resistance in the Pedicle by Lipoaspiration
CONCLUSION: Liposuction to the pedicle area is an effective and reliable method that both reduces the resistance in the pedicle and overcomes the circulation problems in certain patient groups (groups 1 and 2), increases the mobilization of the pedicle, reduces the breast to the desired size and prevents bottoming-out in the long term and increases the use of superior pedicle techniques. According to our clinical results, it was demonstrated that pedicle vascular mapping with preoperative Doppler sonography was not necessary in these patients.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE IV: This journal requires that authors assign a level of eviden...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 16895: Breast Fluctuating Asymmetry in Women with Macromastia/Gigantomastia
Conclusions: In women with different breast sizes, breast size correlates with FA calculated from breast volume and nipple location FAs. In women with macromastia and/or gigantomastia, breasts present higher FA than “normal” breasts. This observation may give a rationale for earlier and more frequent prophylactic breast imaging in women with macromastia and/or gigantomastia. Outpatient Model for Reduced Utilization of Narcotics Following Breast Reduction
Outpatient Prescription opioids are a major contributor to the opioid epidemic.  We identified the minimum amount of narcotics needed to provide patients after reduction mammoplasty to prevent narcotic waste without increasing refill rate. Breast Reduction as Gender-Affirming Chest Surgery in Non-Binary Patients: Addressing the Needs of a Growing Population
Around 1.2 million adults in the United States identify as non-binary, with 76% between the ages of 18-29.1 Consequently, the number of non-binary or agendered patients seeking gender-affirming surgery is expected to rise.2,3 Gender-affirming chest surgery is a fundamental component of treatment for gender dysphoria. An increasing number of patients presenting for gender-affirming chest surgery identify as non-binary. Therefore, understanding the unique medical and surgical needs of this patient population is critical. (Source: Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery)

Correspondence and CommunicationsLong-term outcomes of bilateral breast reduction in women with obesity and symptomatic macromastia. A cohort study.
Obesity is a common exclusion criterion for delivering of breast reduction mammaplasty (BRM) in the treatment of symptomatic macromastia (SM). Although the risk of surgical complications is high in patients with obesity and increases gradually with an increase in the severity of obesity1, the surgical complications are frequently minor and do not preclude a satisfactory outcome2. BRM offers patients with obesity who suffer from a SM an early improvement in their quality of life3, but there is a paucity of information about it in the very long-term. The Effect of Breast Size on Spinal Posture
AbstractMacromastia can cause various clinical symptoms, such as low back and shoulder pain as well as sacro-iliac disorders. Because of these symptoms, some women consider breast reduction surgery. So far there does not exist a clear correlation between breast size and back pain. Purpose of this study was to evaluate if increasing breast size has a measurable effect on women ’s posture using radiation free surface topography.A total of 100 women were grouped according to their breast cup size into four groups (Cup Size: A, B, C, D). All female subjects were measured with a surface topography system, and their spinal pos...

The No-Vertical Scar Technique for Oncoplastic Breast Reconstruction
Oncoplastic reconstruction can optimize breast conserving therapy. Nipple loss is a concern in patients with significant ptosis and breast hypertrophy particularly with pedicle undermining during tumor resection. The modified Robertson technique (No-Vertical Scar reduction) has been previously described for breast reduction in large, ptotic patients using a wide, bell-shaped inferior pedicle with only inframammary fold and peri-areolar incisions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the No-Vertical Scar (NVS) technique applied to oncoplastic reconstruction. (Source: Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery)
