Primary care doctor's perception about the scope of plastic surgeons: A national survey
CONCLUSIONS: There is a clear underestimation of the role of plastic surgery in a wide range of conditions, which may lead to the downsizing of plastic surgery departments in the national health system. It is of utmost importance to educate primary care doctors so that patients are referred correctly and in a timely manner.PMID:37924719 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjps.2023.10.072 (Source: Hand Surgery)

“Oncoplastic Breast Reduction Surgery Decreases Rates of Reoperation with No Increased Medical Risk”
The purpose of this study is to compare the oncologic, medical, and surgical outcomes of lumpectomy versus oncoplastic breast reduction surgery (OBRS) on a national scale. A national insurance-based database was queried for patients who had a lumpectomy with or without a same-day breast reduction by CPT codes. Patients were then matched by obesity, BMI range, age, region, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and outcomes were compared. There were 421,455 patients in the lumpectomy group and 15,909 patients in the OBRS group. Operative Management of Gynecomastia and Pseudogynecomastia in the Ambulatory Surgery Setting from 2016 to 2019
Gynecomastia and pseudogynecomastia which cause enlargement of the chest affect up to third to two thirds of men.1 Goals for the operative management of male breast hypertrophy include flattening of the chest, elimination of the inframammary fold, reduction and re-positioning of the nipple-areolar complex, removal of redundant skin, and minimization of scarring.2 Current surgical options include liposuction, mastectomy to resect glandular tissue, and breast reduction which includes removal of excess skin. Superomedial-Posterior Pedicle-Based Reduction Mammaplasty: Evaluation of Effectiveness and BREAST-Q Outcomes of a Rapid and Safer Technique
ConclusionAuthors technique offers reliable vascularization and innervation of the nipple –areola complex and achieves satisfactory aesthetic outcomes. It is associated with shorter operative times compared to other techniques reported in the literature. The Superomedial-Posterior Pedicle-Based Reduction Mammaplasty represents a safe and effective method for breast reduction surgery, p roviding significant benefits to patients with breast hypertrophy.Level of Evidence IThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Horizontal Pillar Technique: A Single Pedicle Septum-Based Approach in Reduction Mammaplasty with a Twist
Breast reduction surgery has proven to be a successful treatment for various conditions such as postural disorders, anxiety, dermatological problems, and body image disorders, and is tailored to accommodate each patient's needs and anatomical variations. The author presents a modified approach for reduction mammaplasty using a septum-based superomedial pedicled nipple areola complex (NAC) flap combined with horizontal dermoglandular pillars. This adjustment enhances desired breast projection, potentially eliminating the need for alternative pedicles in most cases. (Source: Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery)

Characteristics of Transgender and Gender-Diverse Youth Presenting for Surgery in the United States
CONCLUSIONS: We reported the perioperative characteristics of TGD youth and showed a steady increase in the detected prevalence of TGD adolescents accessing surgical care. Future investigations into specific challenges associated with caring for these patients are warranted.PMID:37471293 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006618 (Source: Anesthesia and Analgesia)
