Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 558: Genetic Mechanisms Driving Uterine Leiomyoma Pathobiology, Epidemiology, and Treatment
Borahay Uterine leiomyomas (ULs) are the most common benign tumor of the uterus. They can be associated with symptoms including abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, urinary frequency, and pregnancy complications. Despite the high prevalence of UL, its underlying pathophysiology mechanisms have historically been poorly understood. Several mechanisms of pathogenesis have been suggested, implicating various genes, growth factors, cytokines, chemokines, and microRNA aberrations. The purpose of this study is to summarize the current research on the relationship of genetics with UL. Specifically, we performed a literature...

Venous Thromboembolism Characteristics and Outcomes Among RIETE Patients Tested & amp; Untested for Inherited Thrombophilia
Blood Adv. 2024 Apr 26:bloodadvances.2024012611. doi: 10.1182/bloodadvances.2024012611. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInherited thrombophilia (IT) workup is commonly pursued in venous thromboembolism (VTE) patients. Recent American Society of Hematology (ASH) guidelines recommend a selective approach to IT testing, nevertheless, evidence on whether thrombophilia testing can actually improve patient-important outcomes through tailored management is limited. Data from the large prospective RIETE registry was analyzed to compare VTE risk factors, management and outcomes between patients who were tested for IT and untested pat...

Fibrinogen contribution to clot strength in patients with sepsis and hematologic malignancies and thrombocytopenia-a prospective, single-center, analytical, cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Patients with sepsis and HM presented higher concentrations of fibrinogen than uninfected patients, resulting in greater MCF amplitudes even in the presence of thrombocytopenia.PMID:38666064 | PMC:PMC11043640 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2024.102362 (Source: Thrombosis and Haemostasis)

Fewer severe infections with tranexamic acid in patients with hematologic malignancies
CONCLUSION: Patients with hematologic malignancies who received TXA had less severe infections than those who received placebo with no difference in overall rate of infection or other inflammatory outcomes. Further investigation is needed on the impact of TXA on infections in this population.PMID:38666065 | PMC:PMC11043644 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2024.102358 (Source: Thrombosis and Haemostasis)

The Efficiency and Toxicity Of Anlotinib in Combination With Docetaxel Followed by Epirubicin and Cyclophosphamide Regimen as Neoadjuvant Treatment in IIB to IIIA Triple Negative Breast Cancer: A Single-Arm, Multicenter, Open-Label, Phase II Study
CONCLUSION: The combination of anlotinib and EC-T chemotherapy demonstrated tolerable side effects in the neoadjuvant treatment of early TNBC. pCR was higher than what has been reported in previous clinical studies of chemotherapy alone. This study provides additional rationale for using anlotinib plus docetaxel-epirubicin-based chemotherapy regimen in patients with early-stage TNBCs.PMID:38670862 | DOI:10.1016/j.clbc.2024.01.018 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Do You Bleed? A 1-Year FOBT Case-Series Study
CONCLUSIONS: FOBT is inappropriately used in the hospital setting for GIB investigation. This study shows the inefficiency of FOBT to guide management and the high frequency of positive inpatient FOBT tests leading to unnecessary endoscopic investigation, longer hospitalizations, and delays in care. FOBT should be limited to the outpatient setting and be avoided while investigating GIB, anemia, etc. in the hospital.PMID:38668714 | DOI:10.1097/MCG.0000000000002016 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)
