Stimulant prodrugs: A pharmacological and clinical assessment of their role in treating ADHD and binge-eating disorder
Adv Pharmacol. 2024;99:251-286. doi: 10.1016/bs.apha.2023.10.002. Epub 2023 Oct 25.ABSTRACTIn this review, we critically evaluate the contribution of prodrugs to treating two related psychiatric disorders, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and binge-eating disorder (BED). ADHD is characterized by inattentiveness, distractibility, impulsiveness, and hyperactivity. BED is also an impulse-control disorder which leads to frequent, compulsive episodes of excessive eating (binges). Lisdexamfetamine (LDX; prodrug of d-amphetamine) is approved to treat both ADHD and BED. Serdexmethylphenidate (SDX; prodrug of d-threo...

Efficacy of eHealth interventions to reduce depression symptoms in individuals with obesity: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionEHealth interventions that address and target both mental and physical health with interactive strategies calls for better efficacy in the reduction of depression symptoms. Future eHealth interventions that target depression symptoms in individuals with obesity should integrate digital strategies that address both mental and physical health through interactive modules. Distinct Topological Properties of the Reward Anticipation Network in Preadolescent Children With Binge Eating Disorder Symptoms
Few studies have considered the neural underpinnings of binge eating disorder (BED) in children despite clinical and subclinical symptom presentation occurring in this age group. Symptom presentation at this age is of clinical relevance, as early onset of binge eating is linked to negative health outcomes. Studies in adults have highlighted dysfunction in the frontostriatal reward system as a potential candidate for binge eating pathophysiology although the exact nature of such dysfunction is currently unclear. Prefrontal-Limbic Circuitry is Associated with Reward Sensitivity in Nonhuman Primates
Abnormal reward sensitivity is a risk factor for psychiatric disorders, including eating disorders such as overeating and binge-eating disorder, but the brain structural mechanisms underlying it are not completely understood. Here, we sought to investigate the relationship between multi-modal whole-brain structural features and reward sensitivity in nonhuman primates. (Source: Biological Psychiatry)

Changes in evening-shifted loss of control eating severity following treatment for binge-eating disorder
CONCLUSIONS: Findings suggest that treatment reduces evening-shifted loss of control eating severity, and that this effect may be more durable following ICAT relative to CBTgsh.PMID:38414359 | DOI:10.1017/S003329172400028X (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Longitudinal associations between response-style strategies and abnormal eating behaviors/attitudes in adolescents: a cross-lagged panel model
ConclusionsWe concluded that a decrease in rumination is critical to alleviating mental health problems, such as AEB and depressive symptoms, during adolescence. This suggests that interventions to reduce the level of rumination should be conducted in the early stages of adolescence.Trial Registration Number: Not Applicable. Cognitive restraint, uncontrolled eating, and emotional eating. The Italian version of the Three Factor Eating Questionnaire-Revised 18 (TFEQ-R-18): a three-step validation study
CONCLUSION: The TFEQ-R-18 proves to be a concise and precise tool for measuring transdiagnostic eating behaviors. Its applicability in the Italian context, supported by robust psychometric properties, suggests its utility for both research and clinical purposes. The findings affirm its potential to inform interventions aimed at enhancing psychological health.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level V, descriptive study.PMID:38402372 | DOI:10.1007/s40519-024-01642-y (Source: Eating and weight disorders : EWD)

Modifying biased attention towards food stimuli in binge eating disorder: A multi-session training study
Appetite. 2024 Feb 22:107284. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2024.107284. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIndividuals with binge eating disorder (BED) exhibit a biased attention towards food stimuli. Against this backdrop, the present study with pre-registered design (ID: DRKS00012984) tested whether (a) a training designed to reduce attentional food processing indeed modifies this bias, (b) this reduction is evident in several measures of food-related attention and (c) this is associated with reductions in craving, binge frequency over the past 28 days and calories eaten in a laboratory based bogus taste test. Individuals with BED we...
