The relationship between difficulties in the regulation of positive and negative emotions and binge-eating symptoms in young adults
Eat Behav. 2023 Dec 3;52:101839. doi: 10.1016/j.eatbeh.2023.101839. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIt is well-established that binge-eating (BE) is linked to emotion regulation (ER) difficulties. However, research to date has focused almost exclusively on difficulties regulating negative emotions, with little attention to the relationship between positive emotion dysregulation and BE. Further, research is inconclusive regarding which specific facets of ER difficulties are most strongly associated with BE behaviour. Therefore, the current study examined whether difficulties regulating both negative as well as positive emotio...

Neurocognitive reward processes measured via event-related potentials are associated with binge-eating disorder diagnosis and ecologically-assessed behavior
Appetite. 2023 Dec 6;193:107151. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2023.107151. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAltered reward processing has been implicated in the onset and maintenance of binge-eating disorder (BED). However, it is unclear which precise neurocognitive reward processes may contribute to BED. In the present study, 40 individuals with BED and 40 age-, sex-, and BMI-matched controls completed a reward (incentive delay) task while their neural activity was recorded using electroencephalography (EEG). Individuals with BED also completed a 10-day ecological momentary assessment (EMA) protocol assessing binge-eating behavior i...

Longitudinal associations between adolescent skin color satisfaction and adult health outcomes in Black women.
Conclusions: Although previous research suggests that in adolescence, Black girls’ skin color satisfaction affects both body satisfaction and disordered eating behaviors, this association does not hold into midlife. Rather, post hoc analyses suggest that the lasting effects of adolescent skin color satisfaction are mediated by the longitudinal stability of body satisfaction, which in turn, is associated with adult health outcomes. Risk of binge eating disorder in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease
CONCLUSION: Binge eating, as scored by BES, is present in a significant proportion of MASLD cases screened for metabolic disorders in a specialized center. It may impact behavioral treatment, reducing the chance of weight loss without systematic psychological support.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level III, cohort analytic study.PMID:38055131 | DOI:10.1007/s40519-023-01628-2 (Source: Eating and weight disorders : EWD)

An open trial for adults in a residential program for binge eating spectrum disorders
Eat Disord. 2023 Dec 4:1-17. doi: 10.1080/10640266.2023.2288461. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe current study assessed treatment outcome for 99 adult admissions to a residential program specifically designed for binge eating spectrum disorders (BESD). Participants completed self-report measures at admission, discharge, and 12-month follow-up and were asked to complete blood draws at admission and follow-up. Primary outcomes were eating behaviors; secondary outcomes included comorbid symptoms and physiological variables. Eating behaviors improved significantly from admission to follow-up, as did most comorbid symptoms an...
