Role of Vitamins in Cardiovascular Health: Know Your Facts - Part 1
Curr Vasc Pharmacol. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.2174/1570161121666230912155548. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular (CV) disease (CVD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality world-wide, thus it is important to adopt preventive interventions. Observational data demonstrating CV benefits of vitamin supplements, advanced by self-proclaimed experts have resulted in ~50% of Americans reporting the use of multivitamins for health promotion; this practice has led to a multi-billion-dollar business of the multivitamin-industry. However, the data on the extensive use of multivitamins show no consistent benefit for CVD preve...

Antioxidant vitamin and mineral supplements for slowing the progression of age-related macular degeneration
CONCLUSIONS: Moderate-certainty evidence suggests that antioxidant vitamin and mineral supplementation (AREDS: vitamin C, E, beta-carotene, and zinc) probably slows down progression to late AMD. People with intermediate AMD have a higher chance of benefiting from antioxidant supplements because their risk of progression is higher than people with early AMD. Although low-certainty evidence suggested little effect with lutein/zeaxanthin alone compared with placebo, exploratory subgroup analyses from one large American study support the view that lutein/zeaxanthin may be a suitable replacement for the beta-carotene used in th...

Observational data showing beneficial CV-effects of vitamin supplements, promoted by self-proclaimed experts, have led to ~50% of Americans using multivitamins; this practice has culminated into a multi-billion-dollar business. However, robust evidence is lacking, and certain vitamins might incur harm. This two-part review focuses on the attributes or concerns about specific vitamin consumption on ...

Elucidating anti-aging and antioxidant activity of Hydnocarpus anthelmintica on skin aging and cosmeceutical potentials: in silico and in vitro study
CONCLUSION: The results of in-vitro experiments showed the effect of HA extract on oxidative stress reduction and collagenase inhibition. We discovered two main active compounds, luteolin and β-carotene, that may be involved in p53 and MAPK signaling, and showed HA extract activity against oxidative stress and collagenase.PMID:37680148 | DOI:10.2174/1386207326666230901092247 (Source: Combinatorial Chemistry and High Throughput Screening)

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 6395: Emerging Insights into the Applicability of Essential Oils in the Management of Acne Vulgaris
Maria Endres The occurrence of pustules, comedones, nodules, and cysts defines acne vulgaris, a prevalent chronic inflammatory dermatological condition. In the past few decades, essential oils extracted from varied natural sources have acquired recognition due to their potential medicinal applications in acne therapy. However, there is not yet sufficient medical data to fully characterize this interaction. Multiple factors contribute to the development of acne vulgaris, including excessive sebaceous production, inflammatory processes, hyperkeratinization, and infection with Cutibacterium acnes. Essential oils, includi...
