Posttraumatic cognition change trajectories in veterans with PTSD who completed an intensive Cognitive Processing Therapy treatment program
We examined NPC change trajectories in a group of 443 veterans who completed a 2-week intensive CPT program. We identified four NPC trajectory groups termed start high end high, start high end moderate, start moderate end low, and start low end low. Most of the groups showed an increase in NPCs at the midpoint of treatment before ultimately decreasing. As predicted, baseline PTSD symptom severity predicted change trajectory group membership. Also, NPC change trajectories were associated with PTSD severity at the end of treatment such that individuals in smaller NPC change groups had higher PTSD symptoms at the end of treat...

Negative emotional cues improve free recall of positive and neutral words in unmedicated patients with major depressive disorder
Cogn Behav Ther. 2024 Mar 13:1-14. doi: 10.1080/16506073.2024.2328288. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIndividuals with major depressive disorder (MDD) exhibit attentional biases toward negative, mood-congruent stimuli while filtering out positive and neutral stimuli, resulting in memory biases to negative content. While attentional and memory biases in MDD have been extensively studied, the underlying mechanisms of these biases remain unclear. The current study investigates a novel model proposing that exposure to negative emotional cues triggers a transient "attentional window" in individuals with MDD, leading to heightene...

Can REBT Reduce Academic Stress and Increase Adjustment in Rural Students?
In conclusion, the application of REBT is useful and beneficial in managing academic stress among the rural student pop ulation and calls for advancement. Unlike academic stress, REBT does not have a significant impact in improving school adjustment among rural students. (Source: Journal of Rational-Emotive and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy)

Cognitive behavioural therapy added to standard care for first-episode and recent-onset psychosis
CONCLUSIONS: This review synthesised the latest evidence on CBT added to standard care for people with a first-episode or recent-onset psychosis. The evidence identified by this review suggests that people with a first-episode or recent-onset psychosis may benefit from CBT additionally to standard care for multiple outcomes (overall, positive, negative and depressive symptoms of schizophrenia, global state and functioning). Future studies should better define this population, for which often heterogeneous definitions are used.PMID:38470162 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD015331.pub2 (Source: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews)

A systematic review of artificial intelligence-powered (AI-powered) chatbot intervention for managing chronic illness
CONCLUSIONS: The reviewed studies suggest promising acceptance of AI-powered chatbots for self-managing chronic conditions. However, limited evidence on their efficacy due to insufficient technical documentation calls for future studies to provide detailed descriptions and prioritize patient safety. These chatbots employ natural language processing and multimodal interaction. Subsequent research should focus on evidence-based evaluations, facilitating comparisons across diverse chronic health conditions.PMID:38466897 | DOI:10.1080/07853890.2024.2302980 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Efficacy of eHealth interventions to reduce depression symptoms in individuals with obesity: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionEHealth interventions that address and target both mental and physical health with interactive strategies calls for better efficacy in the reduction of depression symptoms. Future eHealth interventions that target depression symptoms in individuals with obesity should integrate digital strategies that address both mental and physical health through interactive modules. Behavioural therapy for shift work disorder improves shift workers' sleep, sleepiness and mental health: A pilot randomised control trial
J Sleep Res. 2024 Mar 5:e14162. doi: 10.1111/jsr.14162. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe present study evaluates the efficacy of behavioural therapy adapted for shift work disorder with a randomised control design in a healthcare population. Forty-three night shift workers (m. age: 34 years; 77% women) experiencing shift work disorder were randomised to either the behavioural therapy for shift work disorder (BT-SWD) or a waiting-list control group offered after the waiting period. Participants completed questionnaires on insomnia, sleepiness and mental health pre- and post-treatment, pre- and post-waiting, and at follow-u...

Academic Stress Interventions in High Schools: A Systematic Literature Review
Child Psychiatry Hum Dev. 2024 Mar 4. doi: 10.1007/s10578-024-01667-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe experience of academic stress is common during high school and can have significant negative consequences for students' educational achievement and wellbeing. High school students frequently report heightened levels of school-related distress, particularly as they approach high-stakes assessments. Programs designed to reduce or prevent academic stress are needed, and their delivery in school settings is ideal to improve treatment access. The current review aimed to examine the effectiveness of high school-based programs...

The effect of single-component sleep restriction therapy on depressive symptoms: A systematic review and meta-analysis
J Sleep Res. 2024 Feb 28:e14180. doi: 10.1111/jsr.14180. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSleep restriction therapy is a behavioural component within cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia and is an effective standalone treatment for insomnia, but its effect on depressive symptoms remains unclear. This review aimed to synthesise and evaluate the impact of single-component sleep restriction therapy on depressive symptoms relative to a control intervention. We searched electronic databases and sleep-related journals for randomised controlled trials and uncontrolled clinical trials, published from 1 January 1986 until 19 Aug...
