Effectiveness of group cognitive behavioral therapy for depression in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis of delivery by different healthcare professionals
This study addresses the gap in understanding the varied effectiveness of group cognitive behavioral therapy (gCBT) delivered by different professionals. This study aims to address this gap by conducting a systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that evaluate gCBT and compare it to inactive controls in adults with a clinical diagnosis of depression. A total of 33 RCTs were included for analysis. In the overall analysis, 'profession of gCBT deliverer' was not a significant moderator in the meta-regression model (p = 0.57). For people without comorbidity, the overall effect size estimate was -0.69 (95% CI, -...

"The early bird catches the worm"-Prediction of early response and its importance for treatment outcome in a naturalistic setting of cognitive behaviour therapy
CONCLUSION: The therapeutic relationship is a crucial predictor of ER. Patients achieving ER tend to have better outcome than those without ER. The early phase of therapy warrants particular attention to enhance psychotherapy outcomes.PMID:38363023 | DOI:10.1002/cpp.2956 (Source: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy)

A systematic review of psychosocial interventions for children and young people with epilepsy
CONCLUSIONS: There is a growing evidence base supporting the efficacy of psychosocial interventions for children and young people with epilepsy. This evidence base is also increasing in quality. Particular components of treatment that prove to be effective include psychoeducation, components based on cognitive behavioural therapy principles, as well as mindfulness techniques. This aligns with the evidence-based recommendations for adult populations. Intervention goals centre around improving quality of life, reducing symptom distress, and increasing knowledge and skills. The instruments used to measure these outcomes are p...

Psychosocial interventions for stimulant use disorder
CONCLUSIONS: This review's findings indicate that psychosocial treatments can help people with stimulant use disorder by reducing dropout rates. This conclusion is based on high-certainty evidence from comparisons of psychosocial interventions with both no treatment and TAU. This is an important finding because many people with stimulant use disorders leave treatment prematurely. Stimulant use disorders are chronic, lifelong, relapsing mental disorders, which require substantial therapeutic efforts to achieve abstinence. For those who are not yet able to achieve complete abstinence, retention in treatment may help to reduc...

The clinical effect of digital cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia in subgroups with depressive and anxiety symptoms: A secondary analysis of a randomized-controlled trial
J Sleep Res. 2024 Feb 14:e14173. doi: 10.1111/jsr.14173. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInsomnia is a highly prevalent mental disorder, and is often co-occurring with depression and anxiety disorders. Cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia as treatment of choice for insomnia can also be applied digitally (digital cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia), making it more accessible. This is a secondary data analysis of a two-armed parallel randomized-controlled trial. In the primary publication, N = 238 participants meeting criteria for the 5th edition of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders chronic in...

A phenomenological comparison of auditory hallucinations between borderline personality disorder and schizophrenia: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: In order to prevent misdiagnosis of AHs in BPD, the DSM-5 may need to acknowledge the broader and more frequent occurrence of psychosis symptoms in BPD clients. Such clarification may enhance diagnostic practices and facilitate more timely access to treatment. There is also a need to develop and trial psychological interventions that explicitly target AHs in BPD.PMID:38358078 | DOI:10.1002/cpp.2958 (Source: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy)
