Treatment of Pain in Birds
This article provides an overview of the current understanding of evidence-based clinical analgesic use in birds. The field of avian analgesia has dramatically expanded during the last 20  years, affording more options for alleviating both acute and chronic pain. These options include opioids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, local anesthetics, and/or other drugs like gabapentin, amantadine, and cannabinoids, acting at different points in the nociceptive system thereby helping to provide greater pain relief while reducing the risk of adverse effects when combined. Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 7797: Essential Oils and Their Compounds as Potential Anti-Influenza Agents
eji Essential oils (EOs) are chemical substances, mostly produced by aromatic plants in response to stress, that have a history of medicinal use for many diseases. In the last few decades, EOs have continued to gain more attention because of their proven therapeutic applications against the flu and other infectious diseases. Influenza (flu) is an infectious zoonotic disease that affects the lungs and their associated organs. It is a public health problem with a huge health burden, causing a seasonal outbreak every year. Occasionally, it comes as a disease pandemic with unprecedentedly high hospitalization and mortality...

Hybridization of amantadine with gardenamide A enhances NMDA antagonism and in vivo anti-PD effects
Bioorg Chem. 2022 Nov 4;130:106223. doi: 10.1016/j.bioorg.2022.106223. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEight hybrids of amantadine (ATD) with a natural modulator gardenamide A (GA) via an alkylene carbonyl bridge or alkylene bridge have been designed and synthesized. Evaluated by electrophysiological assay, compound 5b was confirmed an enhanced NMDAR antagonist compared to ATD with IC50 value of 10.2 ± 1.2 μM. 5b has been demonstrated to reverse the damages of behavioral performance, the loss of dopaminergic neurons, the reduction of TH positive, and the increase of α-synuclein in both MPTP-treated mice and zebrafish mode...

Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 7619: Comparison of LC-MS3 and LC-MRM Methods for Quantifying Amantadine and Its Application in Therapeutic Amantadine Monitoring in Human Plasma
ing Huang A simple sample preprocessing method was developed for the quantitative determination of amantadine (AMT) in human plasma by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry cubed (LC-MS3). The LC-MS3 system comprised a Shimadzu Exion LC-20AD HPLC pump coupled with a QTRAP 5500 mass spectrometer. First, the plasma samples were pretreated using acetonitrile as the extracting solution to precipitate protein. Next, amantadine and amantadine-d15 (AMT-d15) were separated on an Agilent Poroshell 120 SB-C18 column (4.6 mm × 50 mm, 2.7 μm) using isocratic elution with solvent A (70% 0.1% formic...
