Second Fellowship
Hey everyone, I'm seeking out advice as I'm currently a second year heme/onc fellow and have had the chance to do a recent elective in immunodeficiencies and really enjoyed it. I plan on working with an allergist over the next month but am interested in possibly applying to a allergy fellowship after I finish my heme/onc one. I am wondering how competitive I may be as I'm coming to this conclusion late. I was a 240/260 on Step 1/2 and I'm currently at an academic place and went to a top 50... GI Hours/lifestyle
I'm a medical student exploring my options and I discovered I really like GI, but work-life balance is an important factor for me. I'm wondering what the work schedule would look like practicing in a non academic setting (ie hospital employed or private practice). I have no interest in academic medicine. I know it's not considered a "lifestyle" specialty like derm or allergy, but it doesn't seem as intense as surgery or cardiology. Is having an 8-5 schedule (not including call of course)... Importance of Research for Matching IM
I’m a rising second year medical student at one of those older DO schools. I’m starting to realize I want to do IM and then a fellowship afterwards (heme/onc, rheum, allergy seem interesting to me). I know that it’s helpful to match into an academic program or a highly regarded community program to keep fellowship options open. So my question is how important is research to match into these types of IM programs? I’m currently doing some research over the summer in neurology, but will likely... UVA vs CWRU vs UNC-Chapel Hill
Hi, everyone! I'm super excited to be accepted at these three schools, and now I'm trying to decide between them. I'm a North Carolina resident. Right now, I'm interested in derm, ophtho, or an IM subspeciality like allergy or rheum. Of course, this could always change, but I want to set myself up for success in whatever I choose to pursue. I don't see myself pursuing an academic career in the future. I'm trying to find the best fit while also balancing cost. UVA (~200k COA) Pros... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

COVID and Allergies thread: Rotation Experience + General Third year vent
Appreciate any attending or residents to chime in here. -- My school doesnt have its' own hospital and have affiliate agreements with hospitals. I have allergies and runny nose etc. I didn't fully realize how bad it will be in a mask. I kept opening close, clearing my nose while sharing a desk with attending. Thinking that she will not say anyting not notice or whatever. Well she did. She was not amused and said that I didn't look good, and that it was a health safety issue. The worst... What do you recommend patients with no insurance do when they can't afford their inhaler?
Let's say you have a patient on medium dose ICS/LABA and can't afford it. Assume he/she has no allergies. If they can't afford it, I see about the doctor changing it to airduo and using the goodrx card. This patient has no insurance. Have another patient who can't afford Dulera 200. The savings cards for symbicort/dulera/breo aren't very good anymore. I recommended they try advair diskus generic on the goodrx card. What do recommend to people when they have no insurance and can't afford... What do you recommend patients with no insurance do when they can't afford their inhaler? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

specialty choice thread: IM vs rads
So after having done both rotations and reading countless threads regarding both fields, I am at an impass. Everywhere I look on sdn/reddit, people say anyone who chooses IM over rads is crazy due to better pay, lifestyle in rads. However, I am still drawn to IM with the goal of doing PCP outpatient or a chill fellowship like rheum, endo or allergy. I enjoy clinic with patients and enjoyed my IM rotation. However, as an M3 I am concerned that I didnt have full exposure to the cons of IM... specialty choice thread: IM vs rads (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Allergy/Immunology
Anyone have any insight on Allergy&Immunology job market, lifestyle, and salary? Have heard that field is struggling in PP due to primary care docs taking over procedures but I wonder how true this is especially in urban centers like SF/LA/NYC/Chicago/Miami? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
