Earning potential in IM lifestyle specialities
How likely can one break north of 400k in the following 3 subspecialties of IM: endocrine, rheumatology, allergy/immunology, sports medicine? That's given an employed position or private practice with no partnership opportunities. Location: West coast preferably. Hours worked: 4-4.5 days a week, 8 hour days. I like being in the clinic more than being in the hospital. Don't mind being a PCP either, it's satisfying work, but very hard work having to deal with charting and inbox and every... Primary Care Job - Saturated Cities!?
Are there any cities currently saturated for primary care jobs for those boarded in internal medicine or family medicine? What about for the IM sub-specialties gastroenterology, cardiology, hematology/oncology, critical care/pulmonary, nephrology, or allergy/immunology? Can you pretty much pick your city for primary care or are jobs harder to come by in certain cities like LA or NYC? Also, what is the expected salary for LA or NYC in primary care? What is the expected salary in the IM... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PCN allergy and Ancef
The last time I looked at it, I remember reading that if you are allergic to PCN, you are actually much more likely to have a reaction to Clinda. I think the most recent data is 0.7% overall cross reactivity (Ancef/PCN), and 3% if the PCN allergy is proven to be a true allergy. Regardless, the practice of not using Ancef when PCN allergy is listed is ridiculous. BUT - Because of institutional pressures, I still go along with clinda substitution if that train is already started. (If... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AOA Board of Pediatrics vs American Board of Pediatrics
I'm just curious, do most DO's and MD's know that the AOA Board of Pediatrics is equivalent to the ABMS' American Board of Pediatrics, especially for people in general pediatrics? It also offers subspecialty certification in neonatology and allergy/immunology for those in those subspecialties. I understand for those in other specialties, it may not be a viable option because it lacks your subspecialty certification, but for those of you who are general pediatrics bound, why not take this... Difficult case (schizoaffective, FND, and extensive allergy list)
Hi all. So I have a difficult case that I wanted to put to the group. I have a young ACT patient with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type resulting in many hospitalizations and very bad destruction of property, in the years before I took over his care. Throughout those years, he was tried on a variety of antipsychotics (risperidone, olanzapine, haldol, prolixin, invega, etc), but each time would manifest "allergies", which he states (and are listed in his medical record) typically as... 2023 Allergy & Immunology Job Market and Outlook
As someone interested in the field and planning to apply to fellowship this year, I was wondering if anyoen has any insight into the current Allergy/Immunology job market this year. I ask as the fellows at my program haven't yet secured a job upon graduation, stating that the current job market isnt the best. I am currently in an academic program along the west coast, and was a bit surprised to hear this. A part of me thinks perhaps they are very selective about their choice, but taking a... UVA vs BU pls help me decide im so torn
Grew up in Tampa, went to school in upstate NY, lived in NYC for gap year, and have come to really love being in a big city. Academically I'm interested in pediatrics, allergy/immunology, and am considering exploring combined peds/genetics programs. The ultimate goal is to live in NYC or the Northeast. UVA - pros Condensed, lecture-style pre-clinical with ample time to take electives and prep residency applications in M4 the people I met during second look - other prospectives... Hoping for some feedback on why this cycle hasn’t gone well, if you think I am ready to reapply, and potential school lists/ types of schools I should or shouldn’t apply to.
