Pseudomesotheliomatous Carcinoma of the Lung with Morphological Characteristics of Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma: An Autopsy Case Report
Intern Med. 2023 Aug 16. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.2138-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 50-year-old woman presented with left pleural effusion. A pleural fluid cell-block specimen and longitudinal lymph node needle biopsy suggested signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC). Although computed tomography showed a consolidation shadow in the left lower lobe, a left lung biopsy could not be performed. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed no malignancies. We administered carboplatin, pemetrexed, ipilimumab, and nivolumab for lung cancer; however, she died due to progressive respiratory failure. Pathological autopsy reveale...

Gastrodin destabilizes survivin and overcomes pemetrexed resistance
Cell Signal. 2023 Aug 14:110851. doi: 10.1016/j.cellsig.2023.110851. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSurvivin is a bifunctional protein that plays crucial roles in tumorigenesis. In the present study, we discovered that the natural product gastrodin suppressed the cell viability and colony formation of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines A549, HCC827, and H460 in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, gastrodin enhanced the protein levels of cleaved-caspase 3 by activating the endogenous mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. Gastrodin inhibits protein kinase B (Akt)/WEE1/cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) signaling to down...

Warburg effect enhanced by AKR1B10 promotes acquired resistance to pemetrexed in lung cancer-derived brain metastasis
Resistance to pemetrexed (PEM), a rare chemotherapeutic agent that can efficiently cross the blood-brain barrier, limits the therapeutic efficacy for patients with lung cancer brain metastasis (BM). Aldo-keto ... (Source: Journal of Translational Medicine)

Cost Effectiveness and Budget Impact of Nivolumab Plus Ipilimumab Versus Platinum Plus Pemetrexed (with and Without Bevacizumab) in Patients with Unresectable Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma in Switzerland
ConclusionsOur model projected nivolumab+ipilimumab to be cost effective for the non-epithelioid subtype but not for all histologies. Substantial discounts for nivolumab+ipilimumab would be necessary to achieve cost effectiveness for all histologies. (Source: PharmacoEconomics)

Chemotherapeutic drugs for soft tissue sarcomas: a review
In this study, we first comprehensively reviewed the efficacy of various chemotherapeutic drugs in the treatment of STSs, and then described the current status of sensitive drugs for different STS subtypes. anthracyclines are the most important systemic treatment for advanced STSs. Ifosfamide, trabectedin, gemcitabine, taxanes, dacarbazine, and eribulin exhibit certain activities in STSs. Vinca alkaloid agents (vindesine, vinblastine, vinorelbine, vincristine) have important therapeutic effects in specific STS subtypes, such as rhabdomyosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma family tumors, whereas their activity in other subtypes is we...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 4018: Whole Exome Sequencing of Thymoma Patients Exhibiting Exceptional Responses to Pemetrexed Monotherapy
Conclusion: Exceptional responders to pemetrexed for metastatic thymomas may be characterized by arm-level CNVs. Further, whole-genome and RNA sequencing studies should be performed. (Source: Cancers)

Survivin degradation by bergenin overcomes pemetrexed resistance
ConclusionsSurvivin overexpression is required for maintaining multiple malignant phenotypes of NSCLC cells. Bergenin exerts a potent antitumor effect on NSCLC via targeting survivin, rendering it a promising agent for the treatment of NSCLC. (Source: Cellular Oncology)

Harnessing tumor immunity with cytotoxics: T cells monitoring in mice bearing lung tumors treated with anti-VEGF and pemetrexed-cisplatin doublet
CONCLUSIONS: Anti-VEGF associated to CT triggers notable increase in CD8/Tregs ratio. Regarding the scheduling, a two-week delay after using anti-VEGF and CT could be the best sequence to optimize antitumor efficacy.PMID:37524968 | DOI:10.1038/s41416-023-02350-7 (Source: Cancer Control)
