Investigating and modeling motorcycle crash rates at urban unsignalized intersections in India
CONCLUSION: The study concludes that MTW crash rates are influenced by traffic and intersectional factors. Increased gap acceptance time correlates with lower crash rates. Countermeasure selections require detailed investigations, because it was observed that the presence of central traffic islands has varied effects on crash rates at 3-legged and 4-legged unsignalized intersections.PMID:38768387 | DOI:10.1080/15389588.2024.2348729 (Source: Traffic Injury Prevention)

Antiarrhythmic preferences and outcomes post DC cardioversion for atrial fibrillation, an Australian rural perspective
CONCLUSION: The study demonstrates equal efficacies of amiodarone, sotalol and no AAD in maintaining SR 12 months post-DCCV. Prescribing practices post-DCCV at Dubbo Base Hospital differ from observed national trends and guidelines. AAD prescription requires a multifaceted approach with a key consideration to prioritise safety over efficacy, being mindful of challenges in delivering optimal healthcare in a rural setting.PMID:38766693 | DOI:10.1111/ajr.13138 (Source: The Australian Journal of Rural Health)

Estimating the size and scope of the academic emergency physician workforce
CONCLUSIONS: Approximately four in 10 EPs practice in at least one clinical training site affiliated with an ACGME-accredited EM residency program, and approximately one in three ED visits nationally occur in these academic EDs. We encourage further work using alternative definitions of an academic EPs and EDs, along with longitudinal research to identify trends in the workforce's composition.PMID:38769602 | DOI:10.1111/acem.14931 (Source: Accident and Emergency Nursing)

Motorcycle injuries: a systematic review for forensic evaluation
AbstractThe intricate interplay of exposure and speed leave motorcyclists vulnerable, leading to high mortality rates. During the collision, the driver and the passenger are usually projected away from the motorcycle, with variable trajectories or final positions. Injuries resulting from the crash can exhibit distinct and specific characteristics depending on the circumstances of the occurrence. The aim of this study is to provide a systematic review of the literature on injuries sustained by motorcyclists involved in road accidents describing and analyzing elements that are useful for forensic assessment. The literature sea...
