Will EMT Litigation ruin my Med School Chances?
Hey everyone! I need some advice. I work as an EMT. I recently got into an accident while driving the ambulance with a patient inside to the hospital. The patient was stable. It was the night shift and I was running ALS OPS so I had been driving most of the night. I fell asleep behind the wheel. No one got hurt thankfully, but the vehicle was pretty badly damaged. There's a pretty good chance that the EMS company will get sued and obviously, I'd be implicated. I don't have to mention in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

2 Withdrawals on Transcript
This semester, I enrolled in a few film classes and realized I didn't want to keep taking them. Keep in mind, the drop-add period for my university is approx. 4 days from the start of the semester, giving students maybe one class meeting to decide if they want to drop a class or not. I missed the withdrawal deadline for one of the classes by one day (Aug 22, withdrew the 23rd) on accident as I had received communication that said the withdrawal day was later (we just changed the period from... EM's Fatal Design Flaw (How To Use This Knowledge To Your Benefit)
It was a catastrophic failure of foresight and planning, to build the specialty Emergency Medicine into a form where 65% feel burned out, feel the need to exit and can't. Whether it was planned, or by accident is not important. It was terrible mistake by the Founding Mothers and Fathers, of EM. If EM was a subspecialty of other base specialties, every EM physician career would have a second specialty, built in. If you can stay in love with EM for a 30 year career, it works. If you fall out... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Normal to feel like this during the M3 grind?
I really enjoy my rotations so far, not as bad as I thought especially since I’m on surgery rotation. I can see myself gunning surgery but there is a lingering feeling of regret and sadness on my mind. I will hopefully graduate at age 27, finish residency between 3-7ish years. My mom got hit by a tree in a freak accident a year ago and got a concussion, some muscle damage, and a lil mobility issues. She just turned 58 and will be 60 when I graduate (forgot her b-day because of busy surgery... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I retake MCAT?
Hey everyone I just got my MCAT score today and got a 508 C/P:127 CARS: 126 B/B:127 P/S: 128. I'm not sure if I should retake it and would appreciate your advise! I don't have a great undergraduate GPA because I actually didn't decide to want to go to medical school until after I graduated. My overall GPA is a 3.149 with my sGPA trend being Freshman: 3.238 Sophomore: 2.611 Junior: 2.5 Senior: 3.417 with no extra activities. When I decided to go to medical school after a burn accident... Concerns About Transportation
Hello, I hope everyone is doing well. I have a nagging concern about traveling during medical school. I'm over 25, and I've never had a car my entire life. The reason being that I've been in 3 car accidents, each time I was in the passenger seat. I tried in the past to get my driver's license, but failed. My fear was so crippling that me and my instructor almost hit an oil tanker truck on the highway at 55mph. Thank goodness my instructor was quick to take control of the wheel. My question... Impact of Leave of Absence on matching
Hello SDNers, I'm a Canadian M3 medical student, interested in a competitive specialty (highly competitive in the US, and moderately competitive in Canada). I'm a strong medical student academically with no concerns thus far. Received outstanding evaluations during all the rotations I completed, and have adequate research in the field I'm interested in. Unfortunately, last summer, right before beginning M3, my mother was involved in a major car accident resulting in severe injuries to her... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Received 2 DUI ’s 10 and 17 years ago. Don’t have substance abuse problems. Will I get accepted to MD?
Hi, I’m 38 years old, and going back to school. I have been working with doctors for the past 10 years, and I’ve been dreaming of going back and becoming one. I fulfilled all of my pre-med, pre-req’s and I’m studying for the MCAT now. But...I’m SO worried that my past will come back to haunt me. Regrettably and horribly, I got a DUI 17 years ago followed by another 10 years ago. No one was injured, there was no accident. Nonetheless it’s horrifying to think that I did such things. I have... Applied this cycle but not doing well in final year of classes... what to do?
I am in my last year of undergrad and applied this year to 26 MD programs... offered 2 interview so far but I am taking Orgo 1 and 2 this year (bad mistake)... I might end up with a D/F in Orgo 1 because I missed an exam by accident (my mistake), but I am optimistic I can do well in the spring and with orgo 2. If I can concurrently enroll in both classes, and I am accepted to a program, does it usually stand that I can gain admission and matriculate in 2023 if I graduate on time? I would...
