Publication date: Available online 20 January 2020Source: Sensors and Actuators B: ChemicalAuthor(s): Jérôme F.L. Duval, Christophe PagnoutAbstractWhole cell luminescent bacterial sensors are used to monitor the bioavailability and toxicity of metals in aquatic media. Any rationale of the time response of such metal-detecting biosensors necessarily asks for the so-far missing measurement and modeling of the impacts of medium nutritional quality on lux-reporter expression and bioluminescence production. In this work, improvement of nutritional conditions in bioluminescence assays by increasing amino acid concen...

Authors: Qadir KJ, Zangana KO Abstract BACKGROUND: Regular physical activity and exercise is the third management for the child with diabetes mellitus after diet regime and insulin therapy. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of swimming on glycemic control for a male adolescent with type 1 diabetes mellitus. OBJECTIVE: The study evaluates the effect of swimming on glycemic control for a male adolescent with type 1 diabetes mellitus. METHODS: The quasi-experimental design was conducted on 40 male adolescents with typ1 diabetes, then divided into two groups; study and control groups. 20 adolescent...

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are frequently associated with peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) and may ultimately lead to amputations of the lower extremity. Adjuvant hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) might foster better wound healing and lower amputation rates in patients with DFU and PAOD. A systematic review was conducted to assess the effects of HBOT as an adjunctive therapy to standard treatment for patients with DFUs with PAOD.

Suprarenal abdominal aortic coarctation (SAAC) is a congenital midaortic syndrome that develops owing to a developmental anomaly in the fusion of the embryonic dorsal aortae. This condition is associated with severe hypertension, which is usually the indication for intervention. Open surgery is the primary treatment and it typically involves thoracoaortic bypass (TAB), and less commonly patch aortoplasty (PA). Bypass to the visceral vessels has also been performed in conjunction with TAB or PA. The majority undergoing intervention for SAAC are children and adolescents; therefore, the benefits of surgical intervention must ...

Authors: BaHammam AS, Almeneessier AS Abstract Previous studies have assessed the role of gender and menopause in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). It is well known that menopause is a major risk factor for OSA. However, analogous studies on obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome (OHS) are limited. Recent studies have suggested that OHS is more prevalent in postmenopausal women. Moreover, women with OHS seem to have excess comorbidities, including hypothyroidism, hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, and diabetes mellitus, compared to men. In the present perspective, we discuss recent data on the prevalence and comorbiditie...

ConclusionApoA1 was associated with decreased T2DM risk and TG/ApoA1 and apoB/LDL were associated with increased risk of T2DM, only in males. ApoA1 polymorphism, which is associated with lower HDL cholesterol, influenced the predictive effects of HOMA-IR on T2DM incidence, which appeared to be moderated by physical activity, suggesting potential scope for more targeted preventative strategies.
