Challenges and Perspectives in the Treatment of Diabetes Associated Breast Cancer
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (hereafter termed as diabetes in the rest of the article unless specified otherwise) is one of the most common chronic diseases worldwide and affects all cross-sections of the society including children, women, youth and adults [1]. Lifestyle and diet related diabetes has reached epidemic proportions worldwide. Diabetes results from the body ’s inability to use insulin and comprises nearly 90% of subjects with diabetes around the globe [2]. Evidence also links a higher incidence of cancer, in addition to the common diabetes associated complications (such as cardiovascular diseases, retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy and diabetic ket oacidosis), to diabetes [3,4].
