SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern in children and adolescents with COVID-19: a systematic review
Conclusion Overall patterns of SARS-CoV-2 VOC infections in children and adolescents are similar to those of earlier lineages. Comparisons between different pandemic periods, countries and age groups should be improved with complete reporting of relevant contextual factors, including VOCs, vaccination status of study participants and the risk of exposure of the population to SARS-CoV-2. Primary care during COVID-19 pandemic - a survey to establish clinical needs and lessons learned in infectious respiratory diseases in Spain
CONCLUSIONS: This survey identified the conditions of Spanish GPs in terms of the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 and flu patients. Respondents' comments suggested that quite radical system-level adjustments are needed to allow GPs to capitalize on the potential benefits of POC tests for diagnosis, reduction of referrals, and monitoring of these diseases.PMID:37789255 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-023-02160-z (Source: Primary Care)

COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Hesitancy among Hispanic Adults: A Cross-Sectional Study from the Puerto Rico Community Engagement Alliance against COVID-19 Disparities (PR-CEAL)
In conclusion, booster vaccination refusal was associated with lower perceived vaccine benefits and greater barriers among adults in Puerto Rico. These results informed the development of PR-CEAL's targeted community outreach strategies and public health campaigns to increase booster vaccine uptake.PMID:37766103 | DOI:10.3390/vaccines11091426 (Source: Cancer Control)

Challenges to delivering evidence-based management for long COVID
Early on in the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists forewarned of a potential medium to long-term post-acute sequelae in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2, similar to that documented in bacterial,1 protozoan and viral infections including Epstein-Barr virus,2 Ebola virus,3 dengue virus,4 Chikunguña virus,5 going far back to the influenza pandemic in 1918.6 These varied symptoms following acute SARS-CoV-2 infection is now termed as long COVID and is also known as long-haulers syndrome, post COVID-19 condition (PCC),7 ‘post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC)’,7 ‘chronic COVID’ and many oth...

Regulating Movement in Pandemic Times
AbstractAs COVID-19 and its variants spread across Australia at differing paces and intensity, the country ’s response to the risk of infection and contagion revealed an intensification of bordering practices as a form of risk mitigation with disparate impacts on different segments of the Australian community. Australia’s international border was closed for both inbound and outbound travel, with few exceptions, while states and territories, Indigenous communities, and local government areas were subject to a patchwork of varying restrictions. By focusing on borders at various levels, our research traces how the logics ...

Management of immunosuppressive therapy in kidney transplant recipients with COVID-19. A multicentre national study derived from the Spanish Society of Nephrology COVID registry
CONCLUSIONS: The management of immunosuppressive therapy after diagnosis of COVID19 was primarily based on discontinuation of mycophenolic acid with very discrete reductions or discontinuations of calcineurin inhibitors. This immunosuppression management did not influence renal function or changes in anti-HLA antibodies 6 months after diagnosis.PMID:37661514 | DOI:10.1016/j.nefroe.2023.08.004 (Source: Nefrologia : publicacion oficial de la Sociedad Espanola Nefrologia)
