A Change Of Heart: " For The Children "

Last night, I archived everything on the blog except " Why Pediatrics " .  More and more, it ' s become a question rather than a statement of purpose.  In the wake of the COVID 19 pandemic, where the entire US system shifted on its axis to shut down community Pediatrics services and " feed " children ' s hospitals (to free up resources for sick adults), the situation for those of us practicing inpatient Pediatrics (as " Pediatric Hospitalists " ) really went to hell.  You could not find/beg a job in the community setting during the pandemic.  Actually, jumping through the ABP ' s hoops to do a fellowship or " grandfather " into the specialty made no sense - because it delayed any fiscal renumeration after residency training, and you ' d see no bump in income once done/out.Mother-Baby units have shut down all over North Carolina, and those that remain are struggling to stay alive.  Pediatrics doesn ' t make money you see. I could say much more about our culture and the medical " care " of babies/children - particularly in the United States.  I won ' t.Now, facing a " triple-epidemic " (RSV, Influenza, COVID) of our public health response ' s making (not all of us worshiped at Fauci ' s altar - but we couldn ' t say so if we wanted to work), community hospitals everywhere (who failed to see it coming) are doing all the wrong things to get things back on track - bullying already beaten-down/over-worked/underpaid Pediatricians into sub...
