Field-based assessments of the seasonality of Culex pipiens sensu lato in England: an important enzootic vector of Usutu and West Nile viruses
Usutu virus (USUV), which is closely related to West Nile virus (WNV), sharing a similar ecology and transmission cycle, was first reported in the UK in the southeast of England in 2020. Both USUV and WNV are ... (Source: Parasites and Vectors)

Molecular monitoring of insecticide resistance in major disease vectors in Armenia
Armenia is considered particularly vulnerable to life-threatening vector-borne diseases (VBDs) including malaria, West Nile virus disease and leishmaniasis. However, information relevant for the control of the... (Source: Parasites and Vectors)

Fatal West Nile Virus Infection in Horse Returning to United Kingdom from Spain, 2022
We report fatal West Nile virus (WNV) infection in a 7-year-old mare returning to the United Kingdom from Spain. Case timeline and clustering of virus sequence with recent WNV isolates suggest that transmission occurred in Andalusía, Spain. Our findings highlight the importance of vaccination for horses traveling to WNV-endemic regions.PMID:38270166 | PMC:PMC10826763 | DOI:10.3201/eid3002.230690 (Source: Emerging Infectious Diseases)

CRISPR activation as a platform to identify interferon stimulated genes with anti-viral function
Innate Immun. 2024 Jan 23:17534259231225611. doi: 10.1177/17534259231225611. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInterferon Stimulated Gene (ISG) expression plays a key role in the control of viral replication and development of a robust adaptive response. Understanding this dynamic relationship between the pathogen and host is critical to our understanding of viral life-cycles and development of potential novel anti-viral strategies. Traditionally, plasmid based exogenous prompter driven expression of ISGs has been used to investigate anti-viral ISG function, however there are deficiencies in this approach. To overcome this, we...
