Veterinary Schools strong in Exotic/Zoo/Wildlife and Infectious Diseases
Hi everyone! I applied to veterinary school this cycle, and while I'm waiting to interview and hear back from a few schools, I've been accepted into some and am trying to figure out how to make a decision when the time comes. Since most of these schools are great and I like the teaching formats, I'm looking more specifically at opportunities in interests I have. While it's a bit vague right now and I'm sure ill narrow it down in time, I specifically am interested in exotics/wildlife, zoo... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

An unusual Non-Trad trajectory
Hey everyone, posting for a friend. She is in her late 40's and is a retired IT professional who has set her sights on her true passion (i.e. veterinary medicine for underserved animals). She does not have an undergraduate degree in science from the US, so she'll be starting from scratch. She's financially secure and is not worried about the cost of going to school. The problem is, she struggles with higher level science and math. I know GPA is king, so I don't want her dreams to be... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Failed out of vet school... what do I do now?
Hello everyone, I just finished my first semester of vet school and didn't pass two courses. Today, I received my letter of dismissal, and I'm feeling pretty down. I'm disappointed that my school wouldn't tell me earlier so I could plan better, and now I feel like I'm scrambling. I was also informed today that I could not apply for their special program to get re-admitted due to engaging in academic dishonesty. This event took place when I was going through a mental health crisis and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Radiology Residency Application Cycle 2023
Hello! I wanted to make this to forum so those who are applying for radiology residencies can keep each other updated. This is my first time applying and I’m applying straight out of a rotating. I didn’t get invited for an interview at Colorado so 🥲. I think my GPA is really going to hurt me. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Mentorship Plan
I am a current 4th year beginning to apply for jobs. I am looking at mixed animal practices. I am hoping to have a mentorship plan put together to be able to talk through with clinics I interview at. What have your mentorships looked like? What do you think is necessary for a great mentorship? Thanks in advance! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Undergrad Summer Jobs
I'm a first-year pre-vet undergrad and wanted to know what is the best summer job that vet schools would like to see, or would give good skills I could bring into the field? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

2028 Rejected
To those who have been rejected from almost all the schools they applied to, what are your plans? Are you planning to reapply this upcoming cycle or take a year or more off? If not reapplying until a year or so, what will you do in between? Any career changers? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Grade replacement
Hello all! I have been reading and researching on which veterinary schools take the highest grade for repeated courses into consideration. However, I have been finding contradicting info! I have read that Kansas and Ohio are two colleges that do this. Is this true? Anyone know of any more? The last thread I found info on this topic was from 2012. Not sure if policy has changed since. Any info will be helpful! Thanks!! ☺️ (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Other very mature students (late 40s or 50s)
Hi, I am a second year student, and am in my mid/late-50s. I would love to connect with other students in their late 40s, or 50s (if they exist). It would be nice to share/compare experiences with others who are in a similar situation. Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC - Non Trad 1st Time Applicant
Hey y’all! I’m finally applying to vet school this cycle after a few very long few years and hoping to get some direction as to where I should apply and what I should expect realistically to happen. My story/extenuating circumstances: I was diagnosed with PTSD my sophomore year of undergrad due to trauma I endured throughout high school. I left my Texas home and went to California to get space from the situation, which helped but it still took me 6 years to graduate and with very subpar... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Salary Expectations - Western WA
For a new graduate working at a small animal GP in western WA (think Tacoma/Olympia area) what yearly salary should I be expecting? I was looking at some of the new grad salary calculators (I think by SAVMA?) but it didn't seem to be the most up-to-date. Anything I should look into negotiating into a contract? I definitely want to negotiate relocation expenses. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Housing for Out of State Externships
Any tips on finding housing for off-campus rotations? Currently have no friends or family in the area I'm looking in, which would have been ideal. Wondering if anyone has had good luck with finding an affordable option on a particular forum or website. Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)
