Animal Chiropractor
I’ve seen parents take their kids to chiropractors and it’s basically validated my belief that they are dangerous charlatans. Does this count as animal abuse? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Preparing for your interview
Happy Friday everyone. I wanted to let everyone know that I will be hosting a free Zoom meeting on September 19th to discuss how to prepare for your vet school interview. If you would like to join the meeting shoot me an e-mail at vetschooladmissionscoach@gmail.com and I will add you to the list and send you the zoom link. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Veterinary/Animal experience in Texas?
This may be a very specific question, however I am looking for ways to increase my veterinary/animal experience hours in the city I reside in and see if maybe anyone who is from Texas, specifically in Dallas, that may know a place or two. My goal is to attend vet school in TAMU. I have been working in an emergency vet hospital for the past year, and it has been the only vet experience I have gained. Although it is a lot of hours and I have learned so much, I wonder if this reflects... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Courseload in undergrad
How much does courseload per semester in undergrad affect your chances of getting into vet school? Like, if I have a high GPA and varied experience, will it make any difference in my chances whether I'm taking 15 or 18 credits a semester? If I took a 14 credit hour semester, do I need an 18 to make up for it? Thank you for your input. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC - Non-trad first time applicant
Hey, everyone! I'm a non-traditional student applying for the first time. My plan in college was to become a chemist for the Air Force, but the Air Force had other plans for me as a program manager. Even though program management wasn't my cup of tea, I'm much more confident in what I want in my professional life because of it, and I really tried to highlight my leadership experience and non-technical skills in my application. And the veterinary experience I've gained since getting out of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Surgical Residency Advice?
Hi everyone! I am currently a second year veterinary student at the RVC on the four year program, and I wanted to get some information/advice about pursuing a surgical residency. Now, I know it’s early and I am genuinely keeping my mind open, but it has been an interest of mine for years and I want to be as prepared as possible when it does come time to make a decision. Also so that I can think about it all more realistically, because I’m sure there’s a “rose colored glasses” element to my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Going rate for ER salary?
Of course this depends on the area of the country you're in and whatnot, but is there a good resource to be able to compare current salaries? A lot of job posts either don't list a salary, list a broad range, or list "at least X" and it's hard to know if a salary offer is reasonable without going through the process of speaking to every ER in the nearby area. The AVMA calculator is by state, and obviously living in different parts of a state can have really variable numbers. Of course salary... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Opinions on application? Considering Ross/SGU.
Long story short, I'm a Canadian student and I'm struggling to get into the vet school in my region (UPEI/AVC). I've been finding it very hard to get feedback from admissions on my application. I'd love to get some feedback on how I might be able to improve on my application. I'm currently considering Ross/SGU/possibly Europe for this application cycle. Education: I completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) with a major in Biology. I graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.34... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Letters of recommendations for residency
Hello! I am current a small animal rotating intern at an academic institution. I am interested in radiology. I am terrified that I won’t be able to get a recommendation from a radiologist from my internship. When I’m on clinics with radiology, I barely interact with the faculty as guests on the radiology service interact mainly with the residents. It seems like I am bothering the radiologists when I directly speak to them. I don’t know what to do. I have gotten to know the residents well but... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Undergrad Advice ?
Hi, I am a current student at Purdue University. I am degree seeking (pre-vet) and may potentially pick my major as Animal Sciences Concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. I really need advice on where I should apply to in the future. I just want an idea so I can get my required pre-reqs for certain schools. I would also really appreciate on how else I can earn more experiences and become a well-rounded applicant. I have always considered Purdue as my top choice because it is my in-state... Fun Cases!
I go over to the human med side of SDN and recently found a good thread about fun/cool cases in the ER subforum. I think it would be fun to share cases we liked, found interesting, etc. This week I had an adult Husky come in for xylitol toxicity of 2.0-2.4g/kg (4x the hepatotoxicity level). Hospitalized thinking he'd die despite my best efforts. Nope! Kiddos BG maintained normal levels the whole time. Liver values never changed. And the psychopath howled and hollered the whole time on ace... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Potential Masters Degree?
Hello everyone, I was considering doing a Masters program to increase my chances of vet school admissions for the new cycle but am unsure of which program will be favored more over the other. My three options are a MS in Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, MPH, or the MS in Veterinary Science. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
