Looking for Advice/Motivation
Hi everyone, looking for some insight, advice, motivation or reassurance at this point not sure I applied this cycle to 13 schools, was only accepted to Ross vet prep. I considered going, but ultimately plan to reapply. I’m 25, turning 26, graduated undergrad in 2021, first time applicant, and the plan has always been vet school since I could remember. I’ve somehow become a non traditional student I guess you could say due to repeating classes etc. Prior to applying to vet schools, my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Class rank/GPA in Lab Animal Residency
Hello everyone. I'm a first-year interested in laboratory animal medicine. My school has gone pass/fail, and therefore I will not have a class rank or GPA. How, if at all, will this impact residency prospects (for lab animal med, but also just in general)? Theoretically, we can request a "Dean's letter," which will have a GPA and class rank quintile that they track internally, if we need it for applications but in general we do not have that information. Does "N/A" hurt your application... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC- Waitlisted
Hi, I was hoping someone could give some insight on my application. I was currently waitlisted by LMU and denied by all other schools I applied (ISU, tOSU, UW-Madison, IL, and Purdue). What would be my chances of getting off the waitlist? And insights on what schools I should apply for next cycle? I want to try applying one more time without going the Masters route... thanks! Cumulative GPA: 3.13 Science GPA: 3.39 Last 30: 3.57 Last 45: 3.46 Degree: B.A... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Wamc
Okay, I have a dilemma. I have my bachelors degree in veterinary science and all the pre reqs for vet school from a university. My overall GPA was 2.8. I have clinical experience in small animal/exotic with about 7,000 hours of experience as a veterinary assistant/tech and surgical assistant as well. I have farm experience as I grew up on a beef farm that was also a dairy farm. I have had two strong vet recommendations, a genetics professors recommendation, and an advisor (also DVM)... What are you interested in doing in Vet Med?
I’m interested in learning about what others are wanting to do once they enter the Vet Med field! My interests are internal medicine, emergency medicine, and surgery. I’m not sure yet if I want to work with large, small, or mixed animals, but I’m sure I’ll find out later (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Large Animal Vet in Academia
Hi all, I was recently accepted into vet school and was thinking about my career path in the future. I know I have a long road to go and can always change course but I wanted to get some feedback from y’all. So I want to go into large animal medicine, working with all food animals and perhaps even equine patients. I was thinking about doing this for 5 years or so and then attempting to get a job in academia. I wanted to know how realistic is this? Are there typically positions that open up... University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest (Hungary)
I am considering applying to the UVMB in Budapest, Hungary. They are the second oldest veterinary school in the world and it would be such an exciting opportunity to got to vet school abroad. My fiancé is Hungarian, so it would be lovely to be immersed in the culture and live there for a few years. Does anyone have any insight on the programme? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC 1st time nontrad, career changer
Hello! I'm a current chemistry graduate PhD student looking to apply to vet school in the next 1-2 cycles. Strong interest in zoo, conservation vet med or equine. Would also be interested in working in nuclear medicine/diagnostic imaging since my current work is with PET imaging in humans. Both very far down the road, I understand. I was pre-vet until my sophomore/junior year in UG, swapped paths to graduate school because I didnt think my application was worth it if I didn't have... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Please help! Conflicted on what to do.
Hello! I was extremely fortunate to be accepted into two different schools this year, but I am extremely conflicted about what to do now. I am currently taking a pre-requisite, biochem, for my top choice between the two, but I am afraid I will not pass (taking it again in the summer is not allowed by the school), but the other school does not require it. I am just barely below the number to pass and think I can work my butt off studying and passing, but I am afraid to accept this first... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help! My recommender wants a resume?
I recently asked one of the veterinarians I work with for a letter of recommendation. She said she would be happy to and she thinks I would make a great vet, so I’m confident that her letter is going to be great, however she asked me to send her my resume. What am I supposed to put on this? Should I focus on my skills and experiences at my current position at the clinic she works at? Does she want this resume as a reference on what I do at the clinic when writing my letter? That’s the only... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anatomic Pathology Residency Questions
Hi! I'm a new member and this is my first time posting! I've found some helpful threads from past years and am hoping you guys can help me. I'm a current 3rd year student and am busy looking into anatomic pathology residency programs to apply to this year. After doing a bunch of research on my own and talking to the residents at our diagnostic lab (where I work), I've got a few top programs I'm looking at (University of George, NC State, Louisiana State) and wonder if there's any thoughts on... Does this even exist?
?? Is there a paid advisor service? A service that can advise which new classes to attempt and/or which classes to retake? The college advisors are just not as comprehensive as we need. My daughter got 2 years in a row of no's. She knows she needs to put in work to improve, but strategic guidance on exactly which classes to focus on is what she needs. I am an I.T. professional, and I got nothing, folks. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How to make myself a more competitive applicant for vet school?
For background I am still a senior in HS and an aspiring vet. I have experience volunteering in spay/neuter clinics abroad in Mexico for about two years now. I’ve also volunteered/worked at a low cost mobile vet clinic that mainly did vaccines/microchips/spay & neuter. Additionally I’ve volunteered at my city’s animal shelter mainly during their drive through vaccine clinics and “spayathons”. I also currently work at a dog groomer as a bather/receptionist. I’ve also spent plenty of time... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
