Leukocytoclastic vasculitis in a patient with ankylosing spondylitis: A case report
Key Clinical MessageAlthough the concurrent occurrence of vasculitis with AS is uncommon, when patients diagnosed with AS exhibit symptoms including skin petechiae, purpura, abdominal discomfort, malaise, elevated ESR, and reduced complement levels, vigilant monitoring for vasculitis is advisable following the exclusion of secondary vasculitis triggers such as malignancies, infections, and pharmaceutical agents.AbstractThe primary characteristic of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) involves inflammation occurring within the sacroiliac joint and the spine, leading to destruction and eventual ankylosis. A notably infrequent compli...

Urticarial Vasculitis - A Rare Clinical Presentation Of Hodgkin's Lymphoma
A 49-year-old male was admitted to the intensive care unit in June 2023 for symptoms of severe refractory idiopathic anaphylaxis. His symptoms began with acute diffuse urticaria, which progressed to lip angioedema, wheezing, dyspnea, dizziness, and pre-syncope. At initial evaluation in the emergency department he was hypotensive to 72/52 mm Hg requiring two rounds of intramuscular epinephrine and ultimately an epinephrine drip. These measures resolved his symptoms except for urticaria, for which he received a five day course of 40mg prednisone and 20mg cetirizine twice daily with improvement of his hives. Deregulation in adult IgA vasculitis skin as the basis for the discovery of novel serum biomarkers
Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) in adults has a variable disease course, with patients often developing gastrointestinal and renal involvement and thus contributing to higher mortality. Due to understudied ... (Source: Arthritis Research and Therapy)

Urticarial vasculitis
We present an exceptionally rare case of urticarial vasculitis (UV) secondary to Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) as a paraneoplastic syndrome. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no documented cases of UV secondary to untreated HL in the literature to date. The UV is a complex disorder that can be a presenting symptom of a wide range of underlying systemic syndromes with multiorgan involvement, notably autoimmune disease and malignancy. The pathophysiologic mechanism behind UV as a paraneoplastic syndrome of malignancy, specifically lymphoma, is poorly understood and warrants further research. (Source: Annals of Allergy,...

Re: Epidemiology of giant cell arteritis in Waikato, Aotearoa New Zealand
N Z Med J. 2024 Apr 12;137(1593):93-95. doi: 10.26635/6965.6568.ABSTRACTThe interest in epidemiological data on giant cell arteritis (GCA) increased both in New Zealand and in Latin America, resulting in updated articles like those here commented. Of more relevance are two very recent contributions by van Dantzig et al. with novel conclusive findings from their evaluations on GCA performed in the region of Waikato. The authors emphasised that the diagnosis of GCA remained stable in this region from 2014 to 2022, being uncommon among Māori, Pacific peoples and Asian ethnic groups. Short comments on some literature data fro...

Epidemiological, Clinical, and Therapeutic Profile of Uveitis in Multiple Sclerosis: A Multicenter Study
CONCLUSION: MS-associated uveitis occurs most frequently before the diagnosis of relapsing-remitting MS in the form of panuveitis or intermediate uveitis, which is mildly inflammatory and whose main complications are macular edema, cataract and venous vasculitis. Despite their chronicity, these uveitis cases have a good visual prognosis and teriflunomide appears to have a positive effect on progression.PMID:38602890 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2024.2337839 (Source: Ocular Immunology and Inflammation)

MR Vessel Wall Imaging for Atherosclerosis and Vasculitis
Neuroimaging Clin N Am. 2024 May;34(2):251-260. doi: 10.1016/j.nic.2024.02.001.ABSTRACTConventional imaging modalities, such as computed tomography angiography, MR angiography, transcranial Doppler ultrasonography, and digital subtraction angiography, are utilized in evaluating intraluminal or intravascular pathology of the intracranial vessels. Limitations of luminal imaging techniques can lead to inaccurate diagnosis, evaluation, and risk stratification, as many cerebrovascular pathologies contain an extrinsic vessel wall component. Furthermore, vessel wall imaging can provide information regarding extent, treatment resp...
