Evolution and outcomes of aortic dilations in giant cell arteritis
CONCLUSION: This study suggests that aortic inflammation, as well as atheromatous disease, might participate in the fast progression of aortic dilation in GCA.PMID:38580542 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2024.03.038 (Source: European Journal of Internal Medicine)

Low platelet count at diagnosis of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis is correlated with the severity of disease and renal prognosis
In this study, we explored the relationship between platelet count, clinical characteristics, and the prognosis of patients with AAV. We divided 187 patients into two groups based on their platelet count. Clinicopathological data and prognostic information were retrospectively gathered from medical records. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were used to identify risk factors for prognosis, including end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and mortality. The cutoff point for platelet count was set at 264.5  × 109/L, as determined by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for predicting progression to ES...

Neuro-ophthalmic challenges and multi-morbidity in vasculitis among the older adults
Expert Rev Clin Immunol. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1080/1744666X.2024.2339893. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Vasculitides are a heterogeneous group of disorders producing inflammation of blood vessels (e.g. arteries or veins). All major vasculitides potentially have ophthalmological symptoms and signs including visual loss. Co-morbidity, multimorbidity, polypharmacy and geriatric syndromes all play important roles in patient outcomes for these rheumatic conditions in the elderly. This monograph reviews the NCBI PubMed database (Feb 2023) literature on the neuro-ophthalmic and geriatric considerations in vasculitis....

Ocular Involvement in Selected Rheumatic Diseases - Clinical Manifestation in Adulthood
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1055/a-2239-0412. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOcular manifestations of rheumatic diseases are common and contribute significantly to the morbidity and reduced quality of life of affected patients. Knowledge of typical clinical manifestations is important for the rheumatologist in order to support the reference of patients with corresponding symptoms for ophthalmological consultation at an early stage of disease, or to initiate regular screening examinations (e.g. in patients with Behçet's syndrome). Conversely, a (possibly urgent) rheumatological assessment is crucial for cert...

Characteristics of chest high-resolution computed tomography in patients with anti-aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase antibody-positive interstitial lung disease
CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective study demonstrated that ARS-ILD patients, regardless of myositis symptoms, most often showed the NSIP pattern on HRCT, as previously reported. However, unlike previous reports, the UIP pattern on HRCT was not rare.PMID:38567566 | DOI:10.36141/svdld.v41i1.14144 (Source: Sarcoidosis Vasculitis and Diffuse Lung Diseases)

Association of pulmonary hypertension with outcomes in patients with Systemic sclerosis and other connective tissue disorders: review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with SSc-PH are characterized by significantly lower survival function as compared to SSc patients without PH. Among the different entities of PH, SSc shows the worst survival, underlining prognostic significance of detection and evaluation of PH according to the currently established approach.PMID:38567564 | DOI:10.36141/svdld.v41i1.14570 (Source: Sarcoidosis Vasculitis and Diffuse Lung Diseases)
