UK national survey on surgical gowning for tonsillectomy
CONCLUSION: Our survey suggests most ENT clinicians would consider using a more environmentally friendly surgical gown and some may even consider wearing no gown at all, although many are understandably concerned about the transmission of infection or blood splatter.PMID:38563203 | DOI:10.1017/S0022215124000331 (Source: Journal of Laryngology and Otology)

Decoding the Enigma: Harnessing HPV Testing for the Precision Care in Carcinoma Unknown Primary with Secondary Metastasis to the Neck in North Indian Population Undergoing TORS for Primary Identification
AbstractTo assess the exact role of high-risk HPV testing in patients of carcinoma unknown primary with secondary metastasis to the neck who underwent TORS and neck dissection for identification of the primary site.A prospective study was carried out at a tertiary care centre over one year. Patients with unilateral neck swelling, which was cytologically proven squamous cell carcinoma neck metastasis, were included in the study. After clinicopathological evaluation, they underwent TORS-assisted ipsilateral radical tonsillectomy, tongue base mucosal wedge biopsy for primary site identification, and ipsilateral neck dissectio...

Genetic and Functional Analyses of Patients with Marked Hypo-High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterolemia
CONCLUSION: Case 1 is a new ABCA1 mutation with complex pathogenicity, namely, a W484*/S1343I compound heterozygote with marked hypo-HDL cholesterolemia. Analyses of the compound heterozygous mutations indicated that decreases in ABCA1 protein levels and cholesterol efflux activity caused by the novel S1343I mutation combined with loss of W484* protein activity could lead to marked hypo-HDL cholesterolemia. Galactocerebrosidase dysfunction could also be a potential confounding factor for ABCA1 protein function.PMID:38538338 | DOI:10.5551/jat.64579 (Source: Journal of Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis)

Surgical Management of Pediatric Obstructive Sleep Apnea Beyond T & A – Tongue Base and Larynx
Pediatric patients with persistent obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) after adenotonsillectomy often have additional sites of upper airway obstruction such as the tongue base or larynx. Sleep endoscopy and cross-sectional, dynamic imaging can be used to direct the surgical management of persistent OSA. The tongue base is one of the most common sites of obstruction in children with persistent OSA, especially for patients with Trisomy 21. Lingual tonsillectomy, tongue suspension, and/or posterior midline glossectomy may be used to address lingual tonsil hypertrophy and tongue base obstruction. Epiglottopexy and/or supraglottoplas...
