Which state to claim residency in?
I lived in California my whole life, but moved away for college. My whole family is still there and like most other students from California, I obviously want to go back. However, after college, I moved to Virginia for work during my gap year. I still have my CA license and am registered to vote there, but I pay rent and taxes in VA... I think the smart thing for me to do is do apply as a VA resident to MD schools because my stats are not amazing enough to give me a good shot at CA schools,... Which state to claim residency in? Why dont more Ophthos move to canada?
Per this source (that peruses the government's reimbursement to every physician in the country) Ophtho makes an average of 1.2 million/year in Alberta, Canada accepts ACGME training, and their taxes are only 15% for incorporated physicians! It's not even counting the 20 $4k lasik cases that most of them do on the side 1-2 days a month. http://www.canadianhealthcarenetwork.ca/files/2018/03/20-years-compensation-chart.pdf (Source: Student Doctor Network)
