News from The Associated Press
Price, Verma Encourage Governors To Add Work Requirement To Medicaid Programs.
The AP (4/20, Alonso-Zaldivar) “A simple question – should adults who are able to work be required to do so to get taxpayer-provided health insurance? – could lead to major changes in the social safety net.” Data show some 70 million...

Why do programs sponsor candidates who won't stay in America after residency?
Real question. I am a US citizen IMG who struggled to match. After a few years of trying, I have decided to move on with my life.
I know non-US IMGs who matched matched into US residency programs and went back to their country to practice medicine. Is there a reason why I worked, paid state and federal taxes, my parents work and pay taxes...and someone who won't even stay in this country after residency, gets paid by Medicare to be a resident? So the fact that I would have worked my tail...

Mortgage/rent payment in Residency, especially intern year
I'll make this quick. I just matched at a program in Pittsburgh and will make 52k/year. My calculations tell me I will bring up (after taxes) $1350 bi-weekly.
I will have a wife that will be UNABLE to work and we are assuming it will be for the entire first year +.
I have looked at a number of places and it appears the average rent or mortgage payment will eat up a bi-weekly payment, so 1350 dollars.
I am assuming my school loans will be around 300-350 dollars per month under the PAYE...

Vet interns/residents take home salary?
Hey folks!
I am wondering what is the average take home salary for vet interns and residents? Could current interns/residents tell me how much they lose from their base pay through taxes, insurance, ...etc?

OT: Taxes
Why do I pay so much in taxes? My tax rate is 32% yet President Trump can make millions and have a lower tax rate than me. I don't even live in a state with income tax! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Fellowship take home pay
Hi! I was able to obtain a fellowship with Rutgers for next year. Would any past/present fellows be able to give me a ball park on take home pay after taxes/health benefits? I don't plan to put anything into a 401K etc. PM me if you prefer.
Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Marriage Tax Penalty
All -
Do any of you have ideas on how to - legally - soften the blow of the marriage tax penalty?
Wife is also a physician. This is our first full tax year of two attending income. When we run the taxes through as "filing single", we owe about $2K each. When we run the numbers as "married" (either separately or joint file), we owe >$40k. WTF.
I've already made sure they take all the money that they should.
What else can I do? What am I missing? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pharmacist: Pay off loans or buy a home for equity?
Hi All. I'm hoping to get advice from someone who owns a home and has school debt. Here's my situation. I owe 210,000. I've refinanced with a fixed 4.7% ten year repayment plan and pay about 2,200 per month. I take home about 7,800 per month after taxes. I have a decent amount saved up from being frugal and living at home and having very little expenses (car insurance, etc). At this point I want to buy a home around 500,000 (mortgage would be about 3000) to have equity, sell that down the...

Estimated take home pay?
I'm trying to calculate bi-weekly take home pay.
Say you make 120k/year, are single, and contribute 5% to 401k. Any estimates of what your bi-weekly check would be after taxes and 401k?
I'm coming up with $2,850 assuming taxes are 35%, with the 5% 401k contribution, does that seem about right? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Base Pay vs. Take Home in Residency
Could a couple interns/junior residents tell me how me how much they lose from their base pay through taxes etc.? If you feel comfortable, granted this is obviously anonymous, please state your gross and then the monthly take home amount. I am trying to get a feel for what I will be working with in a few months in terms of living situation etc.
Thanks in advance. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
